Love your work. I have a job offer with a company I have good history with. I shared a few ideas, and while my employer is interested, they said they don't know the right figure or range for my role or proposition. So, i sat in for a week, and revised my plan, did a bit of work to backup my claims (risks are still involved but it looks promising) and searched the market to quote the right range, and your video helped me a lot Wishing you well!

While I am considering another role, I now can be more open to negotiate a starter salary with a higher salary as I become more confident in the role after say 6 months or so; thus bringing in more value and therefore expecting more in return.

that's an interesting question - in my opinion, my argument of that would be that the previous role has absolutely no relevance on the new role in much the same way. Like in the video, one can look at the average salary and make a decision based on the candidates worth (experience) in that skill.

When I was asked this question last week I said "about 20% more than my current salary." To which the hiring manager said "Okay, that's fine, I'll look at the budget". The interview went really well and before that him and his team kept telling me I was a great fit for the company before that. Still waiting to hear back but nervous not sure if that was a no. I wished I'd asked the range first but totally forgot to. It's only been 4 days.

In my opinion the problem is people (usually HR) making decisions about hiring for a position that they most likely know nothing about. So all your points about your car analogy is valid for other side. Maybe if they didn't try to eleminate based on a relatively low impact figure such as amount, the company will also lose on the Ferrari because the perfect candidate was asking for higher number and then they will just end up choosing the guy which maybe taking a lower amount but at the end not best candidate

I stepped up from Foreman to manager after my former boss left suddenly. I have approached them multiple times to address the change in responsibilities. The company I work for only does a performance review every year and I had only been in the new position for a few weeks when they did this evaluation. I feel I should have received a better raise based off my performance in my old position. But did got rated a much lower performance at my new position.

When they ask what is your current salary, I almost act like I didn't hear them and I let them know my range instead. It's funny because it works and they don't ask. They then just assume my current salary is in that range. It's not technically lying but it's smart.

I was 🤔 thinking about what you said in the End about Value and Pricing. There is a story I heard long time ago about Henry Ford ( called the Henry Ford Story) ! Henry Ford just retired his Best Engineer and the plant shut down 👇 He was loosing a hundred thousand dollars a day and decided to bring back his retired engineer to solve the problem . So the engineer came back out of retirement to contract out his Time and looked at one of the three Generators! He took a Piece of Chalk out of his pocket and drew an X on one of the Generators ! He said the ( Engineer) YOUR PROBLEM IS 👉 RIGHT HERE! The new hired engineers looked inside the generator and got the plant back into operation in one hour! (To add some context, on the day I had an interview the response to "What are the next steps?" was "We have other candidates to interview and you should hear back from HR in about 10 days" however I received an email on the SAME EVENING as the interview from HR saying I was the preferred candidate and was moving to the reference stage).

Assuming all that is fine, I would say something along the lines of "I need X". To me, your phrasing sounds too much like it's an arbitrary reach.

Excellent video. I wished I had watched it before a Headhunter reached out to me. I revealed my current salary, and I also was "forced" to fill a form with a salary expectation. The recruiter in the first interview said that I was asking too much (30% more than I'm making) and politely "offered me" feedback that I shouldn't ask more than 20%, because it is unusual in the Market. I argued that I asked for that money because it is the average salary of that position (a higher than my current one), but he said that the company was working with no more than 20% of my current salary. As I'm very interested in this new position, I agreed to adjust my salary expectation. I'm now one of the finalists. Do you think that it is still possible to negotiate a small bump? I would be happy to receive a job offer higher than 25%. Anyway, I'll take the offer, but if I get this, even better. Regards, Alex!

Is it not ok if they would call you and offer you the job, then you say I will give you an answer tomorrow, then the next day you tell them everything good but before you send me the offer letter, could you pls consider to raise my fixed salary by a 5%? Although I know I had more experience and an education in my field. I went ahead and accepted. Now I get a yearly 3% raise, but I feel like don't feel like they value me. What can I do now? I have to be at work by 0630 and I'm done by 3pm. I rarely get called in when on call, so I get a rate of 1.25 an hour only unless I get called in then I get time and 1/2 minimum 2 hrs. I am on call every other week so and have to respond to emergency calls with in 30 mins. As a person in the workforce, the key to Overcoming Underearning is educating yourself and being proactive. Watching this video suggests you're on the right track. If you're interested, there's a great book titled Overcoming Underearning that helped me tremendously. (You can get it on Amazon) It tackles the issue, particularly regarding women and we can, at times, undervalue ourselves by default.
