My daughter is learning about Saudia Arabia, this is the dish she picked to make for her school culture night. Thank you for the webpage & this video! It's great learning about different cultures, but can be a challenge not having that influence. Your video helped a bunch!

That looks so delicious! I can understand why children would love it! It reminds me of something my Italian Granny used to make for me when I was a little girl. It's my comfort food. Pastina- little pasta. She would add butter and milk and sometimes pecorino cheese at the end.

This is the standard version of saleeg. It can be done much better with more flavorful chicken and thicker rice. Thanks for your efforts.
@oldsoulheston9938 жыл бұрын
You should do a vid on YT to show how it can be done better. I would like to see it. I think this is a demonstration/ instructional vid to show the rest of the world a recipe that not many ppl know about. But if you do decide to make a instructional vid on how to make a better version of this recipe be prepared to get criticism from ppl like yourself. It is a normal thing on YT....
@AbdullahBinSaeed8 жыл бұрын
All I said is that this is the standard way of doing it, and standard doesn't mean it is bad. I thanked her for her efforts, and explained how it can be done better.

Your method of making rice with milk,butter sugar and salt I watched and obviously I added spiced little round potatoes,tomatoes,sliced cauliflowers,green chillies and it was found very very inviting and tasty and not very time-taking also.All liked it Alia sister and I have named it as Alia-Veg-Rice.All the workers relished it like anything and said'' Namaste Alia in Arab'.Are you happy,Alia?REGARDS. Hope you enjoy it :) it's really delicious. Here's a recipe for a side dish that is usually served with Saleeq. we call it (salatah Harah) Just grate a tomato, a tiny clove of garlic (optional), coriander, and hot pepper, or put them all in a food processor to speed things up. Add salt and vinegar. This recipe goes with mot rice dishes. I hope you like it :)

Alia, this video has been a decision maker for me. Let me explain - although I am American and of European descent, I am very interested in the food ways of other cultures. I had read about seleq years ago and always wanted to try it. It just so happened that my buddy Tim recently took out the concrete slab in his backyard, and planned to put in a new patio. But the first thing I thought was "While your backyard is busted up, and before you put in a new patio, let's have a pit roast!"

Besitos_

sorry it's not the authentic saudi saleeg.. or even near as typical saudi saleeg.. this dish looks and taste like typical Asian rice porridge or Arroz caldo with a grilled or broiled chicken.. saudi saleeg has soft rice same with milk and a little butter or ghee if u prefer but not liquidy or soupy as the video shown.. ..just saying 😉 anyway thank u for your other recipes..moroccan recipes..I so love it and delicious.. 😍

I believe until the chicken is just crispy. If you want to make sure the chicken is fully cooked, poke a skewer in the thickest part of the chicken and press on it. If the blood comes out it is not done, if clear liquid or no liquid comes out, then it is cooked. But the chicken should be fully cooked when it is placed in the boiling water.
@GamingWithMus12 жыл бұрын
how long did u cook the chicken in the oven after took it out of the boiling water?
@shinomorisagara12 жыл бұрын
Sleeq is supposed to be a healthy meal. Her adding a lot of butter is her personal choice, but we usually don't add this enormous amount of butter. People make dishes in different ways according to their personal taste. Saleeq means (boiled), so yeah, boiling the rice without any fat other than what's in the milk, and what comes out of the chicken is enough. As for the rice, yeah I agree. Mom doesn't usually let the rice get so mushy and runny, so I guess it's a personal preference as well.
