By far the best video that I’ve seen. Literally was trying to figure out the best way to get my foot in the door without taking out student loans etc. This helps a lot.

Great video @RyanCrandall. 100% with you that having a solid resume and interview skills are critical for jumping into the world of Sales Engineering. Regarding Software Development (coding), I think there is a lot of value of having the software dev skills when jumping into the world of Sales Engineering; however, its definitely not required for most SE roles. If you have an analytic mindset and can understand the logic behind the code, that's typically going to be enough. Although I've seen SEs that are strong SW Devs, command a much higher salary than someone who is not (like myself). For anyone trying to get into the world of tech sales, you can't go wrong with Cybersecurity. It's a growing segment that is going to continue to have high demand for sales people and sales engineers. There are a lot of affordable courses and certifications out there that can provide everyone with the basics of cybersecurity concepts. Similarly, there is a lot of great both affordable and expensive content and bootcamps on tech sales and sales engineering. Side note, I very rarely ever work on the weekends for my day job as a Sales Engineer!

@RyanCrandall, this is awesome man. Very informative. This really does provide great insight on the difference between the roles and, what skills you need to prepare to be successful in each.

It definitely is. I’m sure you know there is a lot going around making the industry look sexy, SE and Tech Sales especially. I think a lot of it is being over sold and realistic expectations are not being provided. This definitely gives truthfulness of what to expect and will be expected of you in the roles. Great job Ryan.

I have 10 years sales experience with Fortune 500 companies / automotive sales. To transition into cyber security sales, would you recommend a degree, or cyber security certification?
@RyanCrandall Жыл бұрын
I would recommend getting the Sec+ Certification if you can :)
