This is what I think of the Salewa Wildfire 2 scrambling/approach shoes - sold on Amazon: amzn.to/3WalIoc
Let me show you how they perform on wet and dry rock and on various graded scrambles.
I don't hold back as I give you my honest, unfiltered opinion.
In a nutshell, they're very narrow and not as grippy on wet rock compared to my La Sportiva TXs ( amzn.to/45VjUCR ) but they're not all bad.

Great review sir, I’ll consider getting a pair being someone with slightly narrow feet

Have you ever considered using climbing shoes? There so light you could easily carry them in a backpack. I bought my TX4's (on your recommendation) from Go Outdoors. They beat any UK price by 10%; got mine for £128!

That's a good price! I did think about it before but I think just one pair would be best for me.

Old trick which does work, pull a pair of woollen socks over your footwear when wet for extra grip on wet rock! I always go for comfort, not the performance touted by the marketing team!!

Very true and good tip, I did that in a wet gully once and it does it help loads.

Would you recommend to size up, considering how narrow they are? Also, I am between 2 sizes. So I just wonder if this kind of approach shoe should stay as tight as possible? And even shorter than a regular hiking shoe?

Thanks very much, your review is massively appreciated, would love to hear any and all thoughts on other shoes. Shoe rubber is such a hard thing to judge until you are on the rock, is so frustrating! I find the rock type in Snowdonia really requires good rubber, especially in the wet, so I'd love to hear what does and doesn't work. Years ago I had some Inov-8 trail running shoes I loved cos the rubber was very grippy. I'd feel very clever skipping along Crib Goch edge in shoes that were very performance-enhancing compared to others. But then they changed the rubber in later versions (cheaper I guess) and they were positively dangerous, it was embarrassing. You genuinely couldn't run safely on wet road let alone a mountain! It was like having a soap-bar attached to your foot. I don't know why shoe brands have to change shoes so often, just as soon as you've found a good one they change the design and ruin it...! On a more positive note, thanks for you fantastic channel and website. It has inspired us to try more scrambles, including Sinister gulley which was a great experience 👍

It took me a while to find a pair that I felt comfortable with on wet surfaces, it's amazing how much a difference it makes going from one shoe to another. Thank you!

Hi Daniel, interesting review. Have you experience of Walsh shoes, really fell running shoes but I have done the 3000,s 3 times, twice in the same pair and even climbed on slate. remarkable grip, close fitting but I have narrow feet. and the bonus is tbey are made in the UK. Also very good price. I dont get up to Snowdonis now more than perhaps once every couple of years but your channel is much enjoyed.

Never tried them. I'm going to get my TX4s resoled and with the Wildfire 2s and my winter boots plus my old clunky hiking boots, I think that should keep me going for a few more years. Thank you, glad you enjoying the channel.
