Sally in the garden! Sorry the video is so grainy. I filmed this at sunset so I lost light faster than I thought I would. Also, I've got a new phone and I'm not as familiar with its video settings lol. I quite like this song, and I think it sounds amazing on my gourd banjo! If anyone knows of more spooky/haunting old-time tunes like this, feel free to leave them in the comments and maybe I'll learn them! I heard a really great version of Hares on the Mountain by Nora Brown, so I might try to learn that sometime.
Also, this awesome gourd banjo was made by Jesse Head! If you want to check out his other work (he makes lots of cool gourd/wood instruments) and maybe get a banjo of your own, you can find him at his website jesseheadnaturalluthiership.com/ and follow him on instagram at / head_jesse He could make you a banjo just like this one, or something more customized! I'm a big fan of his work.

It does have a strong flavor of a Japanese Koto. As a young man I lived in Tokyo, and close to a music teacher that had a studio nearby. I miss that beautiful music that came from those instruments, so much. Ot perhaps it was just the 60's I miss. LOL

I wouldn't normally listen to a spooky-sounding song, And under regular conditions, I don't watch many shed tours, But if Phoebe is the one who is putting them on, Then I'll enjoy the content regardless of vid genre or other lures. 🙂

I usually think of bright and happy when I think of banjo music. In a minor key, it takes on a certain darkness, like impending doom lurking in the shed somewhere. Let's hope that's not the case.

I have gone through life thinking I hated banjo music, until tonight. This is the first banjo whose sound I not only can tolerate, but also immediately fell in love with, and the minor key song is especially poignant and gorgeous. ❤

I like the minor chords too, when it's a lonely, quiet evening there is three of us that play through the trees. It's chill. None of has met as of yet. Bards in the dark.

As with all things that come with practice...your playing just keeps getting better and better Phoebe! Thanks for sharing your talents with all of us. As for the lighting...well, just keep going on your shed renovations and you'll get there! A little suggestion once said redesign is complete...try some back lighting to accentuate your banjo collection and add a little depth to you (maybe a subtle color splash up the back wall or something similar. Not too distracting from you and your talents of course). Oh, and I like the new microphone(s) so far...just be careful about the proximity effect with them...don't wander too far afield. Keep up the wonderful work!!!!!

That's a beautiful tune, and it sounds amazing on the gourd banjo. It was really pleasant to just sit back, close my eyes and let it wash over me. It reminds me of something, but I can't place it. There's a traditional Irish song called The Sally Gardens, which has a slow contemplative melody as well, but it's not the same. But I wonder if there's a link there somewhere - I know Appalachian music was heavily influenced by Irish and Scottish trad music. Anyway that was a lovely listen, thank you.
