@@loieblossom6777 Yea shes not even close to the worst person on the show but she definitely isnt an amazing person by any means. Like you said she's self absorbed and really just in her own little bubble of existence but she isnt malicious. Barry on the other hand is a bad person. Yes his intentions arent always based on doing harm or evil but his cowardice and selfishness led him to the point at the end of season 2 where he has everything backfire on him. Thats always been Barry's problem even in the military, he kills for other people so theres always a bit of an excuse for why he murdered someone, despite Barry hating killing he never stops. Atleast by the end of season 2 it looks like he has no one left to pin it on and has to accept responsibility for his own actions. Also OPs remark remind me of people hating Skylar in Breaking Bad. Yeah she was a massive bitch at times but everyone forgets or writes of Walt turning into a fucking monster that is willing to kill a child just to manipulate Jesse more.

I now just picked up about that kid line and the foreshadowing, i dont know he did it on purpose or condcidence but that line on sally perspective of kids shows her insensitive behavior in season 4 and how she never wanted them. I still think season 4 fealt very rushed and not written as well as the first 3 so it could be condience.

She could easily be keeping him (and most other partners) at arm's length unconsciously, it's a shitty thing to do to somebody but it doesn't make her an inherently bad person. There's even some reversal of toxicity when Barry becomes extremely possessive over her at the party. They seemed to have an actual budding friendship before that and she was interested in Barry before he was, so I don't think he's actually as disposable to her as she treats him to be.

One could say that makes him toxic in a way, too. I don't like the way Sally is so self-absorbed, either, but I think a lot of people (possibly even myself) give more of a pass to men than women on this kind of thing. :)

It's more so the fact most people know someone like Sally irl, so they can relate to it if they have problems with her. People don't tend to know a mass murdering hitman in real life however lol

The thing about Sally being a 'bad' person is that she is just hyperfocused on her acting career, which is the sort of work that requires you to really dig deep within yourself in order to come up with a credible performance. You have to be able to draw on your own personal experiences and channel them into your work, if you wanna be any good at it. Sally is incredibly selfish and narcissistic but that's kind of what helps her be the best actor in their little group. The one who makes the most advancements in her line of work and also the only one in her group (aside from Gene in his youth), to take it seriously enough to create and pursue her own opportunities. Yes, she does it all at the cost of other people and stepping all over them emotionally, but it books results and to her, that is what matters the most. With Barry, we sympathize with him because we see everything that goes on with him, right down to certain memories and imaginations. He's a guy who does bad things for selfish reasons, but has the potential to turn that around and become someone better, but the people in his life that are involved in crimes won't let him. They keep dragging him back into situations where is forced to do hits for them, mostly through blackmailing him. He is not a good person, but he doesn't want to be a bad person either. He's morally very complex, to a point where you want to cheer for him on the one hand, because he's honestly trying really hard, but on the other hand, he also does these bad and selfish things to cover his own ass that make you question if he's ever gonna be able to pull it off. Oh, and also we like him because he's Bill Hader, who is generally a pretty likeable actor.
