Be wary of oxalate people. I used to eat lots of greens and salad and then one day a chunk of bone broke off my femur inside my knee joint. When they were doing the surgery to repair it they could see all the oxalate crystals on the bone around the damaged area. The docs said my knee would never function properly and I would never walk properly again. It took my over a year to recover and I stuck to a carnivore diet the whole time and I can happily say now I almost full knee function and I have no issues walking!

And, I needed to cut back on the thyroid meds because I lost 40 pounds, and she refused - she said just skip your thyroid medication one day a week because you're just going to gain the weight back anyway. I started Keto in 2004 when I weighed 330 pounds. I lost 120 pounds and continued until this year when I found Carnivore. I had maintained that first weight loss for 18 years and she was not impressed either with that weight loss or my current efforts. They wouldn't release him until he came out of ketosis (ok, he really hadn't eaten in 3 days because of surgery) and ate a ton of carbs (he had been carb free for over a year). He's still paying the price for eating the carbs. When he got home, all he would eat was three scrambled eggs four times a day. Took him over a month to add additional meats to his meals. What Sally says about oxalates attaching to damaged and regenerating tissue is so true. I had surgery on my bile duct, the whole of my bile duct was scrapped out due to a stone blocking it.. at the time, I was drinking gallons of strong tea with soya milk in it. My bile duct FILLED with oxylate crystals. For the last nine years, my bile duct grossly dilated to 5 times its natural size, causing me intense agony. Fat appeared to be the problem so I ended up increasingly eating vegetables and less and less meat and eggs. I was permanently on liquid oxycodone just to cope with the pain. In the meantime, my joints became painful, my bladder became painful, I got horrible brain fog, and blew up like a balloon. Finally, i was diagnosed with ME/CFS... Dr's couldn't help me, I begged them to take my bile duct out. Luckily, the NHS in the UK currently has long waiting lists because while I was waiting, I discovered Sally's work! I knew immediately this was my problem. I bought some TUDCA to help my bile production increase and gradually increased my meat and fat consumption. Almost immediately, my bladder irritation and kidney pain stopped! My bile duct pain is reversing, my energy is returning! My brain fog has gone, my mood has improved. The weight is melting off. The joint pain is taking a while to reverse and the occasional immune system flare up from oxylate dumping making me feel a little poorly, so I munch some nuts or have a cup of tea, like Sally suggests. I've been cutting oxylates out slowly as I was an incredibly high consumer. I've had crystals in my poop - you can actually see them! But i know they are coming out of my bile duct. Ive had boils too. Yuk! Electrolytes have helped no end. At the end of the day, Sally saved my life ❤

Great conversation, glad to see you two together. Adding to Sally, I 've noticed the most health destructive forms of oxalate foods are coincidentally the ones high in Vitamin A / Beta Carotene. Together they're a nasty duo as opposed to foods high in oxalates and low in Vitamin A. I don't think oxalate clearing isn't done by itself but the body also detoxing conversions of Vitamin A and Retinol to 13-Cis-Retinoic Acid. This is the reason why some Carnivores who were previously Largely Planted Based experience Oxalate and Hypervitaminosis A detox with burning poop that feels acidic and sweat that burns the eyes while also discoloring their clothing and sheets with yellow. Other Carnivores like Nose to Tail who eat a lot of Liver feel the Vitamin A detox coming later. Then you have carnivores who are a combination of both of these who still suffer from different Autoimmune Complications mainly through the skin to detox like Hidradenitis Suppurativa, Psoriasis, and other skin conditions. It is even more important to abstain from these foods and ensure the Liver is running well and supplied with Zinc, Selenium, Molybdenum, and Magnesium to accomplish Phase 1 and 2 Detoxification to get rid of these. Some carnivores may be depleted with some of these Minerals and will start to see old symptoms brought up again once they have their Liver working to full capacity. This is one of the trickiest and most complicated problems I have seen.

Really great conversation particularly towards the end where Sally states that oxalate dumping can occur 3 years after going carnivore. It seems to affect some, some badly and others not at all. Sally says some folks' food history has a long tail. That's me! Back in the 90s I went on a raw food diet. Oh my ...all those oxalate rich almonds.... I must have eaten tens of thousands. The conundrum is that you want to get rid of the stored oxalates but if your body releases too much at once you can end up in more trouble than you can deal with. In other videos Sally has stated that it can take up to 10 years to clear. Oh boy. Some of us will need to find a fast lane but safe oxalate dumping strategy.

Her book & companion book explains how to do it more safely & less severe symptoms! You start by decreasing highest oxalates first & gradually, then medium oxalate, etc; especially those eaten in higher volume. Your body can then start breaking the oxalates back down to oxalic acid, easier for kidneys & skin to get rid of. Adding lemon to you water has citrate in it & can help prevent reabsorbing the oxalic acid; so it gets excreted less painfully.

I just started full strict carnivore 6 days ago, beef salt and water. One of the many symptoms I’m running into is really bad cramps/Charlie horses in both of my calves around 3am every night it literally wakes me up. How long were you stretching? I’ve been suffering from cramps in my calves my whole life. But not this bad. I do run once a week for about a 2-5 mile run and after that my calves are toast. I feel I’ve been pushing my calves for a long time. Did you increase salt intake?

Dr berg has info on cramps from keto diet. The same thing was happeing to me, calf cramps waking me up in the night. I started taking magnesium daily, adding more salt to foods, and drinking mineral water. I havent had cramps now for months. @lukesmith3283

@@jamireed2976 thank you, any specific amount of magnesium? Take it in the morning obviously. I’ve been drinking a lot of carbonated mineral daily for about a year. I think the magnesium may help. What the dose you use?
@jamireed29768 ай бұрын
@lukesmith3283 I started adding it to my green drinks. Lmao. I got nutricost magnesium Citrate in powder form the serving size is one scoop 210 MG. If I was in pain I would use two scoops. But now, I use NOW brand, magnesium glycinate 200mg tablets one or two a day depending on how I'm feeling. I heard the body absorbs the glycinate easier then Citrate. 🤷🏼♀️ Hope that helps.

For years I had some problems with my eyes, itching, some pain behind the left eyeball. Once I have changed my diet I don’t feel these symptoms, except when I have some occasional salad. It lasts couple days. I wish I knew about this many years ago.

I agree!!! Same experience here except with my right eye. I only have symptoms when I try to eat processed food, fruits or vegetables

Got my attention when you said oxalates could come out throught the skin and the salivary glands. Started during covid so I thought that was it. But I would itch terribly along dermatones each side of the body. No meds would help. Only very hot water. It seemed to bring the blood to the surface. And my teeth were/are being coated. I'd brush them, and an hour later coated again. What I experience/d follows your description.

Thank you for covering all of those oxalate dumping symptoms. I’ve been having some of them and didn’t realize what it was (suddenly started getting tartar and my eyes have felt like they’re glued shut some mornings).

Oh man, me too! I didn't realize. I thought it was from quitting supplements but I'm betting it's all of it.

Everything finally makes sense! I’ve been trying to stay strict carnivore but I’ve had bouts of low blood sugar… once I almost fainted before I was able to spoon some honey into my mouth. I didn’t know oxalates cause issues with gluconeogenesis. Also, I started adding organic dairy into my diet recently and started feeling way worse.. the calcium in dairy causing quicker oxalate dumping makes so much sense! Hallelujah

I recently suffered a bout of acute kidney injury apparently due to vitamin C supplementation and high oxalate diet. The AKI is improved but I am left with CKD stage 3 apparently due to oxalate nephropathy. I do have stones, but never passed any, and never had known kidney disease before the oxalate debacle, nor any other risks factors for CKD. My nephrologist and renal dietician want me to severely limit protein intake, and esp. animal protein, stating it will make my CKD progress faster, that it is "very taxing on the kidneys". I am also advised against calcium, magnesium, potassium and salt etc. which you recommended. I love red meat and animal protein, and have become fearful of plant toxins and vitamins/supplements, but am confused what to eat. I also have chronic dysbiosis (possibly SIBO, leaky gut) with severe constipation, hypothyroidism, hyperlipidemia, and iron deficiency with all the associated symptoms. It is hard to know what is causing what, and It is quite the juggling act to address all these issues with diet simultaneously, as fixing one thing makes another worse. But my main question is about animal protein and CKD. Is it safe, or will it make CKD worse? I've been told to have a maximum of 3 oz of red meat per week. Also, as many videos as I have watched about oxalate toxicity, I have yet to find ANYONE that addresses oxalate nephropathy - stones, yes, but AKI and CKD from oxalates, no. I'm also confused about "oxalate dumping". There are some prominent kidney stone specialists online who say they have never seen this in their practice. Are there studies documenting the oxalate dumping and its correlation with symptoms? Where is the evidence showing "oxalate dumping" causing atrial fib. or electrolyte imbalance or metabolism issues and ICU visits? I'm not saying I doubt you, just would like to see the evidence. How can oxalates be measured clinically, apart from 24 hour urines? And if oxalate dumping is so common, why don't more people have oxalate nephropathy with AKI and CKD (like me), with the kidney being a primary target for oxalate damage? Is it possible oxalate dumping could cause a recurrence of the acute kidney injury on top of the already established chronic kidney disease? And, once a person has known oxalate toxicity or damage somewhere, are there a list of clinical tests that should be done to see if other tissues or systems are possibly dealing with this problem as well? Thanks so much for the discussion. I plan to buy the book.

Great interview Dr Chaffee! Couldn’t get enough of Sally Norton’s knowledge. To say our “Health Care System” needs an overhaul is an understatement! Being couched by you, Sally and other experts should be the new health care approach. That is money well spent.

This explains allot. I no longer eat anything that doesn't feel right in my gut and that means feeling anything at all. I get tired of people telling me beans give me gas because my digestive system isn't used to them. Eat more and it'll get better. They've been eating beans for decades and still fart like elephants.
