I don't think they were trying to make Archie look stupid. He had hard-core deep-down prejudices that he believed in that were around at the time and are still prevalent today. It wasn't about Democrats vs Republicans; it was trying to show how his many misguided beliefs were actually unfounded and wrong

Um, they literally set up a switchboard to handle the complaints that never came. Plus look at all the comments that say "Archie is RIGHT!"🤷🏼‍♂️. 🤓😎✌🏼

I've said it before. Norman Lear was entitled to his liberal views. But that didn't mean he had to make conservatives look bad. Archie's character was exaggerated. He often looked foolish. Yet Meathead could come off the same way. At least one person pointed out that Archie was paying the bills.
