Salmon Fishing in a Tiny Creek! Caught my first salmon EVER!!!

Went up to Astoria Oregon to do some Salmon and Steelhead fishing with my buddy Peter and boy was I in for it!! We ended up having all sorts of adventures, catching salmon, steelhead and a couple other species along the way.
I ended up catching my first salmon ever, and it definitely lived up to the hype although it was a smaller fish. I am going to have to head back there in the Spring of 2020 to see if I can hook up with a big one next time!
Hope everybody is getting out there, trying out lures, bait, and figuring out how to better themselves as anglers. I know I learned a ton about salmon fishing! Feel free to comment down below what your favorite bait or lure is for catching salmon.
See ya next week -- I'll be doing a lure-making challenge where I make a lure out of materials bought at the local hardware behemoth and try to catch a fish!

Hey I randomly came across your channel browsing fishing vids and saw Peter J. I used to go to church with Peter and went to a home group at his house when I lived in Portland. I now live in Eastern Oregon. Close to the John Day River and some different Lakes and Reservoirs. I went ice fishing for Trout this winter at Unity Reservoir with some guys from Church. I'm going to try the drop shot rig next time I go out probably at Magone Lake. I went Sturgeon Fishing with Peter on the Columbia some time ago.

Im wondering what strategy you used. I have a similar stream and cant figure out how to catch em without snagging the bottom.

I just saw my first salmon in a stream this year. It was a great experience. I wasn’t sure if fishing was allowed at that area and he was pretty degraded, but would have been fun to catch. Good video!

What is your favourite lure for catching salmon? What's your favorite lure for steelhead?

That is a cutthroat rainbow trout not even close to a steel head buddy! Just thought I’d let you know the difference and that Coho you got was way too dark to even smoke that way meat just turns to mush

Touche yeah it was probably a rainbow but we were calling em steelhead to stroke our egos 😂 technically they are the same species though. We did end up cooking some of that coho with lunch and it wasn't mushy at all. Iwas really surprised. You can see there was still color in the meat and it was still strong. In fact its color was changing went from dark to almost chrome when it died and back to dark. It was really cool to see the color change. Thanks for watching!

My favorite lure for catching coho is an Oslo. (Spring Coho) Also, have luck with pike in rivers on the same lure, I'm all about versatility! Great video, liked and subscribed!
