Anthony is a very intelligent guy, who knows how to incorporate the concepts of physics into salsa dancing. I actually have the cultural awareness and blood thing working for me in salsa, but I also have good physics knowledge and have to commend Anthony for his appropriate use of the concepts of physics.

You could start this move on count 8 as long as it doesnt affect the follows timing while shes rotating (if done improperly, it will cause her to shuffle her feet to keep up with you - not very pleasant for her). Doing it on 8 will help you get to the slingshot part earlier - however, that will cause you to lose a bit of momentum because, since you finish earlier, you cannot immediately use the force generated from the rotation because you have to wait 1 count before continuing.

What I like about your videos is that I watch them here at college and we aren't allowed sound but you explain it in such a way that its still understandable... I'm just too lazy a poor to buy earphones.
@addicted2salsa16 жыл бұрын
Yes, you could start on count 8 as long as it doesn't affect the follow's timing while she's rotating. However, getting to the 'slingshot' earlier causes you to lose a bit of momentum (since you finish earlier and the slingshot does not happen right away out of the rotation). Note that USING COUNT 8 is what will help you do a 360 in the future.

I love your videos and the way you explain all the moves. I startd on 1 than on 2 which is the one I dance most of the time now but since I started teaching recently I realized that on 2 is much harder for beginners. So for that purpose I'll start teaching on 1 again. Your vidoes really help refresh my memory. Thank you Guys!

Anthony, Started following your video recently and surprised that i missed them so long.They are cool patterns. Its a very good style of teaching, where you dance the pattern first ad then break them in small bits!

@jayroo10 what you mean is on2 "palladium style" also known as "power on 2". Anthony and Julie are dancing to the on2 "mambo-tipico". Both are breaking on2. Breaking means the direction changes. The main difference is the "pause". "Power on2" starts with left foot forward. The counts are breaking on2,3,4,pause,breaking on 6,7,8,pause. Nice to dance because you can feel the conga ("bum bum") better. This on2 starts with left foot backward on1,breaking on2,3,pause,5,breaking on 6,7,pause. cheers

Search for a few Milton Cobo videos and watching rotate around the girl (the girl being the pivot point) for a full 360 degree rotation. The problem is that most people count the final 'cross-body' lead as part of 360, but that is incorrect, Cross-Body lead is a LINEAR movement (on a slot), not a ROTATIONAL one (around an axis).
@addicted2salsa15 жыл бұрын
People should say that more often. Julie doesn't get enough good comments.

Stepping forward with your left foot on2 is Puerto Rican style - which it called 'Dancing on Men's Timing'. In NY style, (as politeness to our ladies), men start back with the right on count 2 (called "Ladie's Timing"). Note that the steps are exactly the same - it is just a matter on how you start. Either timing is interchangeable.

Excellent video explaining both verbally and visually how to do the move. In addition to Cross Body Lead 180 and Coca Cola, I understand another name for it is Progressive Cross Body Lead. Anyway, I may be ready to test this out, successfuly, on the dance floor after watching this video, having attempted it unsuccessfuly on previous occasions!

We dance the introduction of the video in On2 timing (Eddie Torres / NY Style), we explain the move in On1 timing and do it at the very end again for the On2 counts. Please note that the cross-body leads are happening on count 2, which is a clear indication we are dancing On2 (clave). When dancing On1, the cross-body lead happens on count 5.

i've found the "cross behind" (@ 4:35) to be easier executed when i make an extended step around her on 7 with my right foot (as she is turning). it was tough at first but one day i was dancing and was unaware that i was doing it. it wasn't until i played back the video that i realized that i was actually back-crossing.
@bolexico16 жыл бұрын
"rubber band" effect, as u call it, is fun when dancing. lol. i also thought of the girls' styling not only for styling, but for the girl to be able to get her arm out of a knot. an example would be that if she didn't raise her arm while being spun, her arm would be closed in during the actual cross body lead itself, instead of her raising the arm on1 or on6 and having the arm be in the correct place and more free during the cross body lead. just my thoughts...hope that made sense:/ great video!

I like these videos, but one big thing here that is confusing me is the very last step "1". His left foot is back on "1" where as it is usually forward. Is there a transition after that or do you continue on doing the counts with the opposite leg?
@epr89748 жыл бұрын
In this move the momentum usually carries you backwards. You can just do the first three steps with the left foot backwards and then go back into your normal basic. There are also a few moves that start with the lead starting is basic backwards, like a lady turn over the first three steps. So you can give her the space she needs for her steps there.

maybe worth pointing out that the girl pushing her left hand up on 1 (in the middle of this turn) isn't just optional styling. Many of the followers I know aren't used to putting their LH up at the end of a CBL inside turn - in which case this move won't work...

so this is the correct way to dance on2? I see many people that dance on2 stepping forward with their left foot on2 beat, and on3 step on the spot, and bring the left foot back on4, then pause on 5, and step back with the right on6, so this is the incorrect way to dance on2??? hey when u say break on 4, do u mean pause on 4 without stepping correct?? thanks for this

Just because everyone once said the Earth was flat, didn't make it not round (spherical). I'm sure once people start applying basic geometry and kinematics to dancing, they will realize it was a simple mistake on the terminology it was taught with originally (like teaching Cha-Cha on1). You can teach it as "360", but as for me, I'd like my "students"/friends to use correct terminology when teaching it others since dance and math are related.

Hi! I need this on2 please
@addicted2salsa16 жыл бұрын
That is incorrect. The lady is the pivot axis (center of the circle) and the guy only moves 180 degrees on that axis. Therefore 360 is the incorrect terminology. Note that some people consider the cross-body lead at the end, part of the move, but it is not, because the cross-body lead is LINEAR movement, not a ROTATIONAL one. There are 360 degrees in a circle. For a real 360 degrees cross-body lead, see videos with Milton Cobo.

Some years ago, I was trying to do this exact video, but it did not work. Now with much experience, I see why... The counting in slow motion is completely different from what they explain when they dance fast. In slow motion, he says, when the girl is turning( watching opposite of you)... step on 1 (Impossible to do it ). If you want to do this trick, just see from min 2:44 til min 2:55.. that#s the correct counting
