Actually... the mistake is they jump off beat into 5 or 3 not really back to 1 You mentioned in the beginning that you would explain how dancing on 2 is better connected to the music but that never happened. F.W.I i teach both. And some people do try to switch from 2 to 1. However One is not better then the other, it's a different connection to the music. I enjoyed the video keep them coming 😁

Thank you!!! This was soooo helpful 😍❤️ This is my struggle!! I’m Peruvian and learned by just listening to the beat, dancing with everyone Cubanos, peruanos, puertorriqueños, everybody. So the struggle is real 😄. Y’all are great teachers!!! Muchas gracias 💕

Thank U so much for the thorough explanation. I initially learned Salsa on2 a long time ago then a decade later I started taking classes to refine it but they're based on1, so sometimes I jumped on2 by reflex, making my dancing partner confused a bit. As you well said, it's all a matter of rhythm & the musical beat. Cheers.

Welcome! Yes it is a bit confusing but thats the difference between the 2 styles and of course what you are listening to in the music. My suggestion is to learn one style and master it first before trying to master another one. That may help!

Thanks for the video! I'm hoping for some clarification. The "Kun-Kun" on the conga is the 4& as well as the 8&. So, are you marking the time on the 4 or the & and 8 or the &? Are you marking 8-2-3---4-6-7 or &-2-3---&-6-7? In other words, Are you marking the the 1st or 2nd "Kun"? I hope the question makes sense.Thanks!

for my opinion, the timing you explain is more the son-timing (contratiempo) than eddie torres on2-timing?
@vincent21212 Жыл бұрын
exactly - so i don't really see the point in going through the trouble if stylistically On1 and this version of On2 is exactly the same. Eddie Torres On2 is different because the slow is during the break step so the feel is very different. This version theyre teaching is basically On1 but on a different beat (following the conga WHICH is not a guarantee for all songs). I don't really care to learn this version since i don't see much of a difference and not all salsa songs carry a steady KunKun

NY salsa is still dancing on1. If you step on 123 567 you are dancing on the tiempo.
@robvidalbjj7 ай бұрын
This is not correct. Dancing on 1 means your break step lands on 1 and 5 vs dancing on 2 when the break step is 2 and 6. They both use the 123 567 count

So is there a video where you explain how you can transitian from salsa on1 to salsa on2 and back and forth depending on the dancers preference that you happen to dance with. In other words as a follower how can you switch back and forth with leaders that dance some on one others on 2? Thank you love your videos

Hello guys. I first started to learn salsa on2 at school and while attending festivals abroad I had to train myself to dance on1 too. It took me several months since I subconsciously go back to my on2 reflexes. Now my question is: do dancers really do the transition in the middle of the song? Is it common in the US? I think it's kinda rude on the part of the lead to do so lol 😙 I'm from Morocco and I've been to many European destinations to dance salsa, nobdoy did any transition from a salsa style to an other one. I'm juste careful at the beginning to guess which salsa style is my lead dancing and that's all. Never dealt with any dance partner switching between salsa styles.
@JoelSalsaNY6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. And I guess you are very lucky then! lol. It is not only common in the US but all over the world. Many dancers come here to NY to learn to dance On2 and since they are very used to dancing On1, they switch ALL the time. Its not rude, its a very common and natural thing to do. Maybe its something you don't realize them switching the timing in the middle of the song, but you have to understand your timing very well to know if they switch or no, not just your steps. Hope that makes sense! Thank you!

Guys! you use "hold" and "slow" as 2 words with the same meaning. However, hold means stand still while slow means keep moving but slowly. In reality it isn't that we dance quick, quick, hold. We dance quick, quick, slooooow. Great explanation about the slow in the turns!! This is the best I've seen!

Salsa on2 - follow start forward on right foot and lead starts backward on left foot, correct? Instead I see the lead in this video start off going forward with his right foot... does it not matter which foot?

Could the count be simplified to just being Slow - Quick - Quick - Slow. Instead of using numbers. Numbers confuse me. Would you recommend that.

@lamario3 жыл бұрын
That would be rhythm not count. You can use the rhythm to get it in your body, but for most number make learning patterns easier. So I would recommend both instead of just one or the other.

How is this version of "salsa on 2" different from mambo timing??
@DavidoverSea2 жыл бұрын
On2 is not “more connected to the music” it’s just a different feeling than on1. Most extremely skilled salsa dancers who can do on1 and on2 well will never say that. It’s a good video but the on2 is better than on1 is very annoying. In my opinion both have advantages and disadvantages and some songs feel better on1 or on2.

@RNicolasRuvalcaba4 жыл бұрын
I can appreciate that you're trying to explain this, but most student dancers will never understand these finer points of timing. The fact is there are even a lot of so called advanced dancers that routinely butcher the rhythm..
@blu-fox3 жыл бұрын
This is mambo. Not technically on2 salsa. Eddie Torres, in his instructional DVD, clearly marks 1 and 5 with either a stationary or moving full step. You can still emphasize the tumba's open tones by waiting to take the step with your right on 1 and left on 5 for leaders. That is strictly on2 as per Eddie Torres. I'd argue that this style of breaking on2 is a kinda flow that lends itself to certain songs but because she's already taken her right step on1 you've jumped the gun on some turns that initiate early in the count. Mambo is 234,678
@edfl4913 Жыл бұрын
Use a song that has more constant Congo so I can see on2 better.
@robinpegden723 Жыл бұрын
Firstly, you would be way better showing the leader and follower foot steps difference between on one and on two. Then get the follower to start on the one beat but applying the on two footwork through the eight beats. The same for the guy, it needs more breaking down and not on the six seven start point, highly confusing

It doesn't help that you're talking over each other. The woman is actually confusing and clearly explaining the process. The guy needs to start the video and go through it as the only one speaking while the woman follows, and then perhaps he can have her make some brief comments. Otherwise, this video is not very good.

I wish they would teach it correctly in the first place so people don't have to learn a transition. No rhythm dances use the one as a beginning.
