"Step by step, the Night King began to approach Bran. This was it - the memory of the world will be destroyed, and an endless night will engulf the world... "No..." "NO!" "No." This will not end like this, Theon thought, blood turning his vision red as he looked on at the Night King. Screw the memory of the world, screw the three eyed raven, the night king will not get his hands on my family - my brother. Theon grabbed hold of the wooden handle protruding from his stomach. Hot red crimson was spilling out rapidly. As the attention of every wight and walker was turned to their icy leader, Theon propped himself up with one arm and began to pull out the weapon lodged inside him. As he lay in the snow, his body burned hotter than dragonfire. Yet, still he continued. He had endured pain worse than this. As he pulled on the spear, he edged ever closer to the clearing, where the Night King now loomed over Bran, silent and still. Theon desperately clawed at the ground, dragging his ever-weakening body forward. The night king slowly raised his arm, reaching for its icy blade. "NO!" Theon wrenched the dragonglass spear from his burning up body. He knew he had not lived a good man, but in those final moments, prayed he could at least die one. His heart aflame, he took aim at the Night King. Ever since he was a boy, he had been able to hit a rabbit in the eye with an arrow from 40 yards. Even with his vision fading, his eye was still keen. He draws his arm back as time appears to slow for a standstill as the last words Theon of house Greyjoy would ever speak, trickle breathlessly from his dying lips. "The North remembers" "...and... "what is dead may never die" Suddenly Arya flies out of nowhere screaming "yeet" at the top of her lungs and kills the Nightking, dabs on his corpse and they all survive and live happily ever after, except for Theon who dies in agony in a puddle of his own blood.

@@ahthatshot7781 Quite probably, but the bit about Melisandre saying that they would meet again was something that always felt like a massive dangling thread. This would have been written in the show back when GRRM had a more prominent role and D&D knew about as much as we did about future books. I never felt with the Azor Ahai stuff that something HAD to come of it like when it's mentioned in the books. All I knew was that Jon Snow, Daenarys Targaryen, Bran Stark, Beric Dondarron, the Hound, and Stannis Baratheon all had a part to play in the White Walkers' defeat. The moment Stannis died was the moment I realised they didn't have to be there for the end, only be an essential cog in the events that lead to the end. Bran Stark, the Hound, and Dondarron's rule was made clear in the most recent episode, while Dany, Jon, and Stannis require more guesswork presently. Point is, the show's always treated Azor Ahai vaguely, while the Melisandre moment felt like a clear and exact point of foreshadowing, at least in regards to the bit about seeing Melisandre meeting Arya again.

The subverting expectations argument is flawed, but I will say this. The show was always about realistic outcomes. Think about it realistically - Arya was the closest character to the Night King. She was equipped with a Valyrian steel dagger. She’s a trained assassin. As a result, it is completely feasible that she would be the one to kill him. And not only that, Bran set the whole thing up. NK gives Bran a double take before Arya lunges at him because he knew he fell for a trap. Many fans are upset that the battle didn’t follow prophecy, but they should have known better. The beauty of the show has always been the twists - Ned’s Beheading, Red Wedding, Sept of Baelor - it rarely follows what people expect. This show has not been about pleasing the audience all the time but rather about making the closest things to realistic outcomes happen. We should have known better.
@trevorp81245 жыл бұрын
It's not even necessarily Arya doing it that's getting to me. @@carnifex2005 but you and people like you are exhibit A why most in most of the movies are like this, they don't make sense cause they don't need to make sense...this started as a real world adaption where bad things happen to good people, where things happen, because it makes sense it should happen, not deux ex machina...I mean, it when to shit last season (best example, season 1 they gave up 2000 men lives to capture Jaime there was tricking and scheming involved to trick him, in season 7 he falls into water right in front of the dragon queen 1) he should obviously drown, he's wearing full plates 2) but if he doesn't, there is no chance they should let him escape, but they do), but this is on another level, I thought more or less they will continue with a logic stretch here and there, but they will have a solid base to end the story provided by G.R.R. Martin, but they went full TV, and I get it...You can't kill the main characters people just wouldn't watch it anymore, and we suckers who liked the series for being special can go and suck it...when they sacrificed the cavalry for no reason at the start of the battle I vomited for several second at stupidity of that move but said to myself let's at least watch the great visual effects, but no it's all in the dark :D But like I said it doesn't matter it can be stupid as long as it is cool to watch it, people like me who actually enjoy(ed) the complexity of the show are in the minority and we have to accept it... @@carnifex2005 Maybe, but it seemed like he only went south of the wall just to kill Bran. Likely he stayed north of the wall for a thousand years because all of the other Three Eyed Ravens chose to stay north. Now that we know the Undead's motive all along was to kill whoever was the current Three Eyed Raven. If the Night King was a Greenseer and able to predict a trap for the dragons then couldn't he predict his own death in Winterfell? Bran definitely saw it... Plus didn't Tyrion come up with the zombie capture plan north of the wall. And the dragons only went north after Gendry and Davos sent a raven for help. Meanwhile Bran was off worrying about Littlefinger or something. Jon didn't even see Bran until this season.

David: For, God, I think it's probably 3 years now or something, we've known that it was going to be Arya who delivers that fatal blow. Dan: She seemed like the best candidate provided we weren't thinking about her in that moment. One of the great things about having this many people you care about in a sequence together is you can kind of pull people's attention and focus to people they care about a lot like Jon and like Dany, Theon and Bran, not to mention Tyrion and Sansa in the crypts. So you're going all over the place with people who you're desperately worried for and hopefully you forget about the fact that Arya Stark ran out of the castle with the battle drums playing and going towards some purpose, and we don't know what until it happens. David: We hope to kind of avoid the expected, and Jon Snow has always been the one to be the hero, the one who's been the savior, but it just didn't seem right to us for this moment. We knew it had to be Valyrian Steel to the exact spot where the Child of the Forest put the dragonglass blade to create the Night King, and he is un-created by the Valyrian Steel. At the end of it it's still, it's a victory for the living but at great cost because some of our favorite characters fall along the way.
