There are a few boat builders that document all their systems, how they work, what the valves do, wiring schematics. The modern day boats get quite complex with all the systems on them. Of course the person who builds the boat, installs the systems doesn't need a book, but as time goes on it's fairly easy to forget how they're put together, and a new person trying to come up to speed in order to do repairs and do them quickly will struggle. It's good to create good documentation and keep it in a binder on the boat somewhere safe and dry. Included in the book should be a good maintenance schedule and place to record what's been done as well as a place to make special notes. It's freeing to the mind to create that rather than trying to remember everything that should be lubed, changed, whatever and on what time basis.

Can I suggest, when running downwind, sheet the main on the opposite side to which the mizzen is sheeted. Thus the wind which exhausts from the mizzen is directed into the main. The same principal can also be applied to the staysail and jib. Another good trick is to secure the luff of the staysail to one of the shrouds and sheet it to the opposite side, thus effectively setting it as a square sail.

They used to tune old radar waveguides by soaking a 2x4 in salt water and into the wave guit then flipping the switch on. The salt water would absorb the energy so the system UP to but not including the radome can be tested. You test the radome / antenna by frying birds on the runway.

I prudent sailor puts the engine on warmers it up and even puts it in gear ticking over then casts of sail or not, I used to sail of and on to my mooring boy but in a flukey wind or a tight spot there's no harm in having the iron sail ready, your boat is looking good .

Radar has to put out some Rf Energy to work. The RF Energy is blocked by it's height and a metal shelf below the emitter. It all works in the GHz band and is very low power output. So you're safe.

Speaker to the cables that are left long that people say could be a problem.... It is possible to have a very small power loss BUT with the wires being coiled they create a CHOKE which helps reduce RFI, Radio Frequency Interference, which would be static in your radio communication, and interference to anything wireless. So it is a win, win having long, coiled wires in the long term.

You are correct, there is little effect on the transmission or reception but your coils should be at least 12” in diameter or larger for all parts of the coil. Smaller diameter coils could potentially damage the cable internally by either stretching the inner shield too much or forcing the shield wires through the insulation until it makes contact with the center wire, although this second is very unlikely with high quality cabling.

at VHF frequncies your service loops are fine, depending upon cable type. Really there is no issue. You can cut 'em short, but you can't cut 'em long. I'm an RF engineer retired with an extra class amateur radio license and my bareboat captain rating. It doesn't make me a genius but I can find my way around the pisspot, so to speak.

I enjoy your videos I think more than any other I follow. If I may, I'd like to comment on your statement regarding the radar position. I've done a good bit of research on this exact issue. I think you're right that it's not a giant danger. However it still deserves some respect. There is always propagation of electromagnetic energy from a radar system. That's how it works. It is certainly true that modern radars are way safer than even just a few years ago. Nevertheless, effort should be made to stay out of the direct line of transmission. As an example, if the beam is 25 degrees in vertically height then 12.5 degrees is aimed below the center point. While you may not rapidly shrivel up if briefly within that, effort should be made to limit your direct exposure. To assure that, the beam does need to be above your heads.
