I always thought that the Orion was going to be intended for strip mining; a certain procedure that the other smaller ships wouldn't be able to do - I recall a video where it almost made it sound like Pac Man munching through thick clusters of asteroids. That was a long time ago though and I'm sure it will be different by the time they get around to building it. I think they are going to have to revisit the Orion design though and perhaps build in a docking facility where smaller mining ships can come and drop minerals off for processing and get serviced if necessary before going back out - I don't think that was ever intended for it but a lack of any facility like that would make it seem a bit less than what this new ship brings.

Got one for $215 with CCU chains. That's a lot more justifiable, within CIG's pricing standards at least. I am definitely desensitized to it because while I completely understand that it's not justifiable in the sense of spending money on a video game, I have spent way more on these discounted CCU chains than if I could only buy the ships outright for their regular price.

So I agree that it is weird how much Star Citizen players have normalized spending insane amounts of money on a video game and say things like "it's worth it" because I've always said that none of these ships, absolutely 0% of them are "WORTH" anything. When people out side of the Star Citizen community talk about how SC players sound like crypto bros this is exactly the sort of thing they are talking about. The only thing that is even arguably worth the price you're paying for it is a basic game package that you need to play the game and it's important to realize even that is basically like preordering a game which I think most reasonably well informed gamers will tell you not to do. Buying anything in Star Citizen is not a cost-value proposition. It is a simple question and that question is "Do you believe in and want the vision of what Star Citizen could be enough to donate money to CIG so they can make it?" if the answer is yes cool buy a game package call it a day don't spend any more money than that you've done more than what is reasonable for CIG to even ask for. If you STILL want to give them more money to make the game then donate what you feel comfortable giving but while you do it just imagine that you are setting that money on fire instead and ask yourself if you're still ok with it if the answer is still yes cool! CIG will thank you buy giving you a free ship once the game is released. That's what you're getting. People need to stop threating it like you're buying a product and more like they are donating to development. We should think of more like you're buying a $575 dollar ticket to a sporting event that you could watch for free at home and at the game they give you a $15 T-shirt for "free" then you turn around and try to claim that T-shirt is worth $575. Like no it's not worth the price you paid to get it just because you chose to pay that price for it. The thing you are buying is the labor and man hours going into development; the ship is just the scraps that fall off the table.

1:10 Bigger mole? ok lets run this though MOLE is bear bones 3 mining laser 8 ore bags 96 scu total raw ore cargo. has to be refined via refinery deck or future implmentation ship like expanse can split the work load for you. copilot remote turret is maybe just defencive option while you run away., Arrastra is armed a lot more like a Gunship with a refinary deck and 3 remote mining lasers that move, as well as a tractorbeam And hanger for cargo and or a Roc Ds so we know it's at least as wide as a Carrack that plust external cargo 512scu assuming refinary pricess is gated to how fast they eject. this trumps the ORION and makes the mole obseleet but it's heavy pricewise Orion might have more defense and it will more then likley be able to suck up S M without cracking .

I feel that a ship board refinery should be less capable than a station board one and a station board refinery less capable than one on a moon or planet? The best use for a ship board refinery is to eliminate any dangerous prosperities of the material so it can be safely transported and/or produce (base) fuel for either drive? A ship with a refinery can produce low grade fuel ("Regular"), the Orion can produce medium to high grade fuel, stations, higher grade fuels, while moon and planetary based refinery's produce the highest grade of fuels, this is the same for minerals. ;-)

I struggle to see the point of mining ships for sale. When the game gets released, there are basically only two options: Mining is safe or mining is not safe. If it is safe everyone will only use the most extreme big ship. If it ia not safe, you will never ever get a XXX dollar ship on grid. Especially the ships in middle look terrible as the meta will likely never favor them.

To the guy saying 2026 for the Orion. To get the Orion in game the Arrastra will need to be in game first as it is a stepping stone to the Orion because it will have mining as well as refining but on a smaller scale than the Orion. To get the Arrastra in game, The Expanse will need to be in game and working first As it is the first Player based refinery. To get the Expanse in game, complete salvaging will have to be in game or at least munching (the ability to turn pieces of scrap into raw unrefined materials) which is tentatively Q4 2023 but I'm gonna say Q1 2024. Will will not see the Expanse until minimum Q3 2024 but I'm gonna guess Q3 2025. The Arrastra could come by Q3 2026 but doubt it and the Orion? Not until 2028 minimum as Large ships like the Orion have no place in the current gameplay. Very little or no place to dock to, no large scale mining assets or other things the Orion needs.

Idk wtf you're complaining about the Arrastra's price when the $2000 ship sold out in less than 60 seconds. And you don't HAVE to buy them. Most will be in-game purchases eventually. But people like the idea of "owning" the ships the drool over. Personally, I regret buying ships in some ways because going from zero to hero is so much more fun. But the real tragedy here is that CIG is shameless. I told everyone that the jump points in the IAE patch were to drive up hype just before IAE to sell ships, not because they were about to give us Pyro. And what did we learn at the recent ISC? They are still nowhere near to releasing Pyro, maybe not even next year. On top of that, the game is as buggy as it's ever been. Nothing's changed. Still one system. Still bugs everywhere. Still can't refuel/repair half the time. When a developer isn't accountable to a publisher, you can get a lot more awesome things. But you also get very little accountability and an extremely slow development rate. CIG has no reason to hurry. They're getting all the money they need. 5-6 years to develop a second system? Do you honestly think you'll even see 50 out of the 100 systems in your lifetime? I highly doubt it. Even if adding personnel speeds up development time by 3x, you still wouldn't get 50 systems until about 150 years later. That's insane.
