luke i have learned so so much from you but here may i make a suggestion as you are here fishing as i do a lot. i never use chum due to it attracts catfish to the point that is all i catch. i use cut bait as you show but usually on about 15 to 20 inch leader under popping cork. i'll just drop it at back of the boat and let current take it away. without cork i will keep just enough tension with my finger so it stays up off the bottom as it drifts back. i will try a little to left or right about 10 yards, then 20 then 30 and if no hits in a few drifts i'll up anchor and drift down maybe 50 yards and try again. since i saw you show how to set hook with slam shady i now use it more than cut bait and so far have had real good success. i'll do as joe did with shady or let drift back and then reel forward a little keeping tension on line as the bottom is thick grass where i fish and when lure gets down into it, it needs cleaned. i am not good at casting so i pretty much stay away from islands because the trees reach out and crab my lure. the flats in 2 to 3 foot of water has all the fish you can want in different areas that has current and structure with pot holes. tomorrow i will go into real skinny water hoping to find that over 30 inch trout. i prefer the open deeper due to i have trouble drifting onto the structure and ruff getting off. getting old has it's disadvantages. thank you salt strong for all the knowledge i have gained and the fish i now catch.

I've tried Kast King, Spider Wire, Siren, Powerpro, the works, you name it. Best one, and the one I still use today is Daiwa J-Braid. It's so slick that sometimes it's hard to keep a knot tied, just as long as you test your knot before using it, you're golden.

Quick question. On your slam shady lure did you use a clip to connect to the jig or did you tie direct? Just curious.
@Saltstrong4 жыл бұрын
We tie direct via a loop knot to keep the amount of metal in the lure assembly as minimal as possible. Here's a link to the one we like best: www.saltstrong.com/articles/non-slip-loop-knot/

@@Saltstrong I said the same thing when I told you guys me dusting off cob webs with the jerkbaits. When I drew in at least half a dozen seagulls an on flew away with my jerkbait. I knew right there my retrieve with my jerkbait was still solid. I'm going to continue working extensively with the jerkbait to ensure my technique stays solid an gets better. I'll do this for 3 months straight every time I fish. Then I'll pick another lure an do like wise so my still with another set up is good. I'll probably use a Carolina rig since I haven't used it much. You guys are awesome

Hey guys, 😃 love your videos. Have a couple questions: how much weight is needed to fish deep water with current, using the slam shady?? Sometimes, it takes a 10oz weight to hold bottom with bait because of current, so does a weight that size affect the movement of the lure??
@SaltySeaCaptain3 жыл бұрын
Are you really asking if a 10 oz weight is going to affect a small inshore soft plastic lure?

Today, I went to surf fishing and felt ashamed. My gear: van staal vr125 paired with 8’0 MHF rod 30lb main and 20lb test, using slam shady and bomber with dr juice slam scent added. Fishing for 4-5 hours around the area. No bites. But an old guy next to me kept getting speckled trouts with vudu shrimp every 2-3 casts. I asked myself why? Is it because my line or gear too heavy? I did the same technique as he did, twitch twitch pause.
