We do all have our favourite marks but the sea bed changes, especially after a big storm, so we must always be prepared to seek out new marks. A once prolific spot can suddenly stop producing and we must walk away from it and look for where the ground is better. I have known anglers who fish the same spot year on year because they once had a tremendous catch there and they just can't go anywhere else.

Awesome again Matt, I used drop nets baited with fish heads and frames to catch prawns with a lot of success, fished Bexhil a fair bit, there was a spot on the way to Bexhil u could go under rail bridge to get to beach , always did well at that spot , I think I told u before about fishing from the storm water drainage outlet at warrior square, using prawns fishing the gap between the rocks either under a float or on the bottom

As you say there's probably no need to cast that far out. Back in the 1950s we only had wooden reels and cotton line so you couldn't cast that far, we still caught lots of fish though. I used to use a shrimp net like that to commercially fish for brown shrimp in Pevensey Bay. There were tonnes of them, you couldn't pust the net for more than about 30 yards because it got too heavy. It's maybe just looking back when everything was better!! but what a disappointing days fishing you had. We used to fish for the table and for only short sessions but we still caught lots of fish from all along the Sussex coast. Good luck.

Good to see you again Matt a nice little episode I fish the similar grounds here in BOP NZ Troughs and banks During the day and sunny the fishing is poor Due mainly to flying predators Gannets etc. as the water is clear Main catches are early morning and evening at the change of light or very overcast days ,especially after stormy weather ,when the fish come in to feed on the Shellfish beds that have been exposed Keep them coming Matt ,Much appreciated

It’s that sandbank Brian - I recon fish will want to be first in to that gulley. Rag worm not so much in demand near us is it but a good bait underused. *edit for spelling

Haven’t lived in Bexhill for a long time but often wold get Bass off beach at Sackville. There are rocks that go out from bottom of beach to the South east and there used to be a small area of sand that was fishable at high water. Often not much shingle though so may have to fish off the promenade if still permitted to do so. Lob out a bait where the promenade bulges out. Chance of both conger and bass. Re the prawns I used to use a spoon net and tickling stick to great effect enabling you t explore all the nooks and areas under overhangs etc.

Another great video. Advice please; just gone over to a fixed spool… I’ve loaded with 40lb braid. Do you advise a stronger leader? To be used with rod that casts max 4ozs. Thanks A
@SaltwaterAngler
@SaltwaterAngler 7 ай бұрын
I’d use a tapered leader. It provides a bit of stretch and abrasion resistance. You could go braid straight through but your right on the danger zone for casting a swinging lead or powerful off the ground cast. Interesting subject - I bounce between braid and mono - do love the bite indication on braid though
@andrewnewby1918
@andrewnewby1918 7 ай бұрын
@@SaltwaterAngler thanks for getting back to me. I leaning towards Braid straight through. I’ll only be making short casts 50 metres max in the surf for Bass. Casting weight 4ozs max, mostly 2 to 3 ozs. If I want further I’ll go to my multiple 6500. Love your videos just down to earth, and you highlight your mistakes which is nice to see. Keep ‘em coming there great 👍 cheers Andrew

People really do cast far far away for bass on most south coast beaches a lob of 20 metres at dusk or dawn is enough fresh outs or half a mackerel 3/0 hook on a simple running ledger
