***** Well.. that IS true Richard.. but also He has given me (and you) skills that help us develop better abilities to do the things we want to do and enjoy doing. But, truth is, there are lots of days when I come home basically skunked (although still thankful) to be able to honestly enjoy my retirement and be able to share it with nice guys and gals around the world... So yes, he is blessing me AND you in many different ways.

Those first few cut-offs were probably barracudas-- as you probably know. Every time I go to a reef and see those big cudas I usually hook up the first few drops-- no matter what bait I use. I like circle hooks and often battle them to the boat. Great fight and it seems to keep them from biting again, unless I have a nice AJ on. It's great to see John back on the boat..

Happy b day Stewart! And Salty kayak, just a recommendation if you open your bail and let the line loose When the Fish get you in the structure, the Fish will not feel tension and most of the time will get out of the structure and then you can catch the fish!

@Glug219 жыл бұрын
Hey salty. Do you use slip sinker on your line and what kinda hooks circle or standard? Reason I'm asking is today me and 3 close buddies took a boat 10 miles out left at 5 am and went home at 4 pm we didn't catch nothing but 2 trigger fish. Which we couldn't keep. No snaper or anything. It's either our setups or the wrecks we went were fished out very heart breaking . Thanks and God bless.
@SaltyKayak9 жыл бұрын
Glug21 Hi Glug... I have had days like that but really, you should have done better. However, one thing I know for sure is that one pile of debris will be holding mostly Triggers, another mostly snappers and another mostly Porgy. Of course, there will be a mix at each pile. If I am not catching much at one pile.. after an hour, I'll go to another FRESH spot. It is my firm belief that you can 'educate' the fish at one spot and after catching several and all the commotion (do fish scream? Can other fish hear it? I believe so) and as a result, the fish at that spot..even if they are hungry, will shy away from being too stupid and get caught. So, I go to an 'uneducated' spot and try there for an hour or so until they become smart. If I am trying for Porgy or Triggers or even Sheepshead, I normally will use a 3/0 or 2/0 J-Hook and if I am trying for AJ's or other palegics, I will up that to a 5/0 or 6/0 and maybe even a 7/0. Of course, if you are TRYING for Red Snapper or grouper, you are supposed to use circle hooks in our area. If I just want to play around and catch some big RS, I will purposely put on a red 6/0 circle. This year, I pre-make my leaders and snell on the hooks so that if I have a break-off, I can immediately retie and get back in the action. And I use a 3 oz egg sinker...
@Glug219 жыл бұрын
SaltyKayak alright I will give that a try next time. I live near panama city beach area so you have to fight the crowds going out in the pass for a spot on the structure and charters will just drop lines right beside yah charters ha!. Even though they were reeling in the snaper today beside yah mind you . We used squid and cigar minos all dead of course. We rigged circle hook with 40 lb braid and 50 lb mono leader with #5 hooks. 6 Oz sinkers. That slide on the line to the swivel.
@SaltyKayak9 жыл бұрын
Glug21 Sounds to me like you were fishing in the crowds and all the fish had been 'educated' at your spot. How deep is it 10 miles out at Panama City? When I go 10 miles out of Ponce, it is average 65' to 70' deep... The deeper you go.. the more and bigger the average fish. But, if you can find someone who will give you some GPS numbers where few people know about, that would be perfect. Also, even wen I go out to the popular reef.. 5 miles out of the inlet, I fish the corners and not the center where the crowds always fish.
@Glug219 жыл бұрын
SaltyKayak depth was 70 to 90 . We got there super early well 5 am is early for me ha. Our main problem was couldn't get the anchor to catch on anything did more drifting and trying to find structure again while the blasted anchor was being dumb.
@dannie31179 жыл бұрын
Glug21 Don't mean to butt in, but I fish south of where Lane fishes and I use a grappling hook with tines that will bend if caught in structure-- makes it easy to retrieve. Works every time. My son made it and I've tried to get him to make and sell them. I also use a ball to retrieve. For an old man like me it makes life easy. I enjoy watching Lane because he knows what he's doing and he shows how it's done!

Hey SaltyKayak i just started watching your videos and i was wondering if you knew what would be a good bait for pier fishing? Thanks god bless
@SaltyKayak9 жыл бұрын
Isaac Girgis Hi isaac.. I have a pretty riliable saying... EVERYTHING eats squid and shrimp.. So the best place for you to start is with shrimp and squid. But t your particular place, pay attention to what the old timers are using and how they are using what they do to catch the fish... then copy them.

Happy bday Stewart! May god bless u! Psalms 20: May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you; May He send you help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion; May He remember all your offerings, And accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, And fulfill all your purpose. We will rejoice in your salvation, And in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions. Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven With the saving strength of His right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God. They have bowed down and fallen; But we have risen and stand upright. Save, LORD! May the King answer us when we call. (Psalms 20:1-9 NKJV)

it almost looked like one of those "red" snappers that you caught may have been a mutton, no?
@SaltyKayak7 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, I had to watch that video again.. WOW, what a great day of fishing. I don't think I have been back to that sot in years and I know I have it marked on my GPS so might have to go back there soon. All of those "Red Snapper" were Red Snapper. Depending on the bottom structure and water clarity and temperature, they can vary in color from a lighter orange to a dark brilliant orange/red. Plus, as I am sure you know, the spot on a Mutton Snapper is much more defined.. like a black magic marker.. than on Red Snapper.

@SaltyKayak8 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, Never heard of a 'Blackfish'. Are they a local fish to central Florida East coast?
@russellffishon9 жыл бұрын
GREAT DAY IN creation salty some jumbo porgy , I keep up on the nor easter reports from long island sound and surrounding area they call those jumbo porgy's ,pork chops for some reason, they are pounding the fluke , striped bass, and porgy , I am leaving in the morning SALTY good bye PA will be fishing in the salt by the weekend, it will take me a day or two to sort through all my gear , to bad about the government fish , what is up with that SALTY , not sure on all the regs on the gulf side I will find out soon , do you ever fish with jigs ? or have a lure ready for an appearing cobia , fishing big bucktails with squid strip's is a very good combo , seems all your bait is readily available , tight line's SALTY

Why don't you keep any red snapper? Red snapper season opened 2 weeks ago.
@SaltyKayak9 жыл бұрын
Joshua Couling Not on the Atlantic coast. Matter of fact, NOAA just announced that there will be NO Red Snapper season at all on the Atlantic side. Ridiculous..!
@dannie31179 жыл бұрын
SaltyKayak Lane. Does the no red snapper season apply to the commercial folks also? It is ridiculous
@SaltyKayak9 жыл бұрын
Dannie Hill I don't know if the commercial guys are affected. Yes, it is ridiculous that "they" whoever they are, has placed an unbelievably low quota on Red Snapper. I just wish I could find out the NAMES of these 'confused' people and let all fishermen know just who is making these INcorrect decisions.
@dannie31179 жыл бұрын
SaltyKayak I just looked at the FWC website and boats for hire have a 44 days limit, but commercial boats have no season-- just the number of fish caught in the Gulf. According to Noaa. no red snapper can be kept by recreational or commercial fishermen in the South Atlantic because they caught too many fish last year. Apparently they've never seen your videos showing how many fish there are. Makes no sense.
@SaltyKayak9 жыл бұрын
Dannie Hill And Danny.. I am telling the truth when I say I don't 'message' the videos. In fact, there are a few clips of me and John catching Red Snapper and throwing them back that never get in the videos. So in short, we are catching I would estimate 10% to 15% more RS than is in the videos.. We need to flood NOAA with calls and emails and get the names of these people making blatantly wrong rules. Someone estimated that only 106,000 fish should have been the quota and that almost 206,000 were taken. It is screamingly clear that 106,000 is 1/10 of what the quota should be.
@robz13978 жыл бұрын
why dont you keep red snapper

I keep all I can legally keep.. and that is zero. The Feds haven't given us a season to keep any in 2 years...
