Awesome video, been looking for a informative video like this for ages. So the mechanical timer that is built into the boiler does that not work anymore? So you need to link the live to the com so when it makes a connect to the switch live, it send the live current back to the boiler telling it to power up the heating? Very good video , liked and subscribed

Sorry can I ask you a question, I have no central heating but I have the same boiler. For some reason the central heating on the boiler is always on even if I Dont have it. Is there away that I can disconnect a wire? So that it doesn’t keep the boiler always running even when not using. I tried turning the central heating temp to 0 but still it’s always on. Thanks for your help in advance.

Brilliant video. I managed to install an hive thermostat by myself and I have this exact boiler (the name is different as mine is Potterton Apollo, but probably it's just a name). The only thing I have some doubts is about the integrated control with the pins. I set it on 1,otherwise the receiver switches on but not the boiler. Is that correct? Again great video considering that I did everything and I have no knowledge of electrical stuff 😂. Thank you!

Well done .you have now cut out the circuit protective conductor .Which protects the flex cable. A better way would have been to connect the flex earth to the earth terminal at the combi side . Then to terminate or choc Earth at the other side. Also the 2x black cable's are twisted together as there was no link cable. Available. I would have guessed. Still enjoyed the video 😊

How does power reach the boiler if we disconnect the wires from the terminal in place of the thermostat receiver’s wires? The black cable that was originally linked to the terminal is linked to the mains so how does the boiler still work when we replace it with the cable straight from the receiver?

my main eco boiler is 4 years old . when I opened the electrical box all the wires where as you said except there was a link wire in the last two slots . do I still put the gray wire in with them ?I do have both lights working in the receiver ok. but the boiler seems not to want to start at times I have set.

@@advancedboilertraining Done all that wired up as per video, I've removed the link left the old timer on do I leave it on perm or timer program . both light are working , I've tried testing by putting the temp setting above the room temp but still won't fire up unless I put the old mechanical on . seems to defeat the idea if having a wireless thermostat . any comments .

Answer me this, please: I know that Brown = Live | Blue = Neutral | Green+Yellow = Earth, but what really annoys me is all that COM/NO/NC bull****. Please tell me which wire color that gibberish corresponds to. Thanks.

Earth wires should be run to,all,points and not just cut off. Connects at the boiler end, terminate in a Wago at Salus end. Neutral also needs identifying with a blue 'marker'. Convention is grey for neutral, black for aux live/switched live in a 4/5 core flex or 3 core and earth cable. Just saying

@@leemclaughlin3927 It’s a safety precaution. With an earth connected the flex cable is protected and could cause the rcd to trip if there was a fault. Without the earth connected than a potential live fault (a nail into the live or the cable sheath gets damaged by the metal boiler casing for instance) wouldn’t operate the rcd, thus leaving an unsafe install. It’s unlikely in this scenario where the flex is so short but it’s not only good practice, it is a requirement of the BS7671 wiring regulations.

I wouldn't advise anyone to install a Salus thermostat. They are an absolute disaster. I'm having mine changed ASAP. I'm tired of getting up at 6AM to go downstairs and turn the heating on manually because YET AGAIN the thermostat schedule has stopped working from the APP on the phone .Don't waste your money. Go with a different brand.

Good luck with the Salus 5 year warranty, you can no longer call Salus. There is an email address for them but they only respond with automated replies. I won’t use their products anymore!
