Rob is going to end up keeping this one so can not wait to see the finished result! I used to do this for a living on caravans, get some over matts made from a template and get the edges whipped, looks like you need a new TV Ariel on the roof, just be careful its not letting any water in

Looks lovely after the clean. The nature of the game means that you have to buy when you get the chance, when the time comes the other motorhomes will get done. For the inside maybe have a word with your upholstery seat guy and see if he would be able to recover the seats and do a new bit of carpet for the front to modernise it. Keep the old carpet as a template and have the new piece's edges overlock stitched to stop fraying.

Now that's a before and after! It's amazing what a good clean can do to a vehicle, even when you are selling. Definitely change the rear lino for something more 'woody' and it will certainly make the interior feel more modern. Aside from that, you'll have no problem shifting this 👍🏻

Wow, that must have been very satisfying, I had a caravan for years and it use to absolutely knacker me for several weeks getting it clean before we went away each year. Never used a power washer though. The inside will also come up well, it will be immaculate. I can see a good profit coming on this motorhome. Credit to you!

Hi both, My first job was getting hold of motorcaravans and prepping them for sale. We jetwashed them first, followed by autoglym resin polish on the body to bring the colour back. Back to black and dress up the engine bay in WD40. I'm the inside If they never had a carpet, we would fit a new carpet running from the cab to the back. It transforms them massively. We even put plastic carpet protector tape over the top in a strip. The fridges sometimes need to be level to get cold (will run off gas or eletric)

Yes that is a good idea to get a top notch carpet remnant and do as you have suggested rather than getting a runner stitched. But you do need something carpety because of treading in and out.

As little motor home's go, you've landed a gooden there Rob and now it's been given a bit of a clean it looks fantastic. And it's got a bit of character. I reckon putting a bit of carpet down in the back is a good idea and maybe use the same carpet to replace the cab carpet as well and just put some mats down.

Would recommend a combi ladder instead of those step ladders, they have a 3rd section that extends above the step ladder and gives something to hold on to instead of the balancing act on the top, 3 points of contact, safety first ... 😀

What a transformation guys, you could see see the yellowing on the rear improve when you used the chemical caravan cleaner, foamed, and jetted it. Maybe I should go get my Karcher out and clean my car and get soaking wet as it's 40C here this week in Portugal, even walking the dog is exhausting for both of us! Seriously though it looks brilliant. I'm not a motor homer but I'd put carpet inside to spruce it up as the lino isn't 100% would make it look much better and also I'd personally put blue, black or grey seat covers on the front seats, pink's a bit 70's, Reverse camera sounds like a must have to me. Jenny chem products look effective, worked well on the door mirror and door handle. Great work!

Having used caravans for 40 years I was told never to use a pressure washers as it could affect the seams. It’s a little late now. Still think you did a great job Rob, the overall condition will make a great motor home
@whu58
@whu58 2 жыл бұрын
You are quite correct never to use a pressure washer because the seams on vehicles of that age shrink over time and you get water ingress - an initial clean with a garden hose & soft brush & appropriate cleaning products is best - TIP; the best way to maintain the outside (every two months if not using a cover) is to use the services of a waterfed pole window cleaner who uses purified water (reverse osmosis) with a soft brush,

Crackin’ update Rob - shows how care and attention really extends the life of a vehicle - agree with the ‘roll-over’ carpet for the back, suggest you dress the front cabin with G101 and a Rubber Gel (leave the ‘was once Red, now Pink’ mats) for the new Owner (hopefully me!, for my Dad!) to decide. Yellowing of the Exterior Cabin;- you could use a more aggressive cleaning agent, but for what you’ve transformed her into now I wouldn’t bother, but what a massive difference Keep ‘em comin’ and, as you say Rob, lookin’ forward, to the next one JCHK

Superb project guys, it comes up really nice. I would suggest you use some pvc flooring (off the roll) to cover the floor. When u use a (stone)grey colour, it will really lift up the interior, as grey is already on the seats and cushions. Carpet seems nice, but in a camper of will get dirty quick, look at the carpet jou took from the cabin. Can 't wait for you to crack on!

Rob, I am no detailer, but a good investment would be a small selection of detailing brushes. It has certainly benefitted from the wash and brush up treatment. Not so surprising after the life it has suffered. When it is left so long, the muck almost becomes part of the paintwork. Getting it back to white would be great, but one heck of a load of work if you are polishing it all by hand, even with the power mop. Carpet could be nice, but not the domestic stuff used in houses. One of the tough automotive variety, that can be cleaned up, and will resist the wear and hazards of life. The better radio and a reversing camera would be great, especially if it covers the above ground aspects to detect low branches. However, this is all adding costs and time to the project, there are limits to the potential sale price you do not want to exceed.

I really think the reason why you’re so successful lads is because you have such a good mix of cars / vehicles. I also watch other KZbinrs like Matt, saving salvage and a Geordie lad who has Cossie’s and a couple based in the states. If you only had the newest cars I wouldn’t watch. Honestly, the Lambo’s and Aston’s really bore me and there’s loads of channels that have the supercars and expensive stuff. I’d much prefer watching an old Mini or Viva being rescued. Jennychem have been going a while - amazed they let the Caravan Cleaner go out the door with such an obvious typo on the label. Do they do an equivalent to G101 and is it as good? Again, what's it like under the bonnet? Don't forget to clean out the inside of the exterior cupboards, eg gas bottle storage. Personally I would just clean that front carpet (which is original and not worn) and put some clear antislip roll over the existing vinyl floor - carpet might not be good in a cooking area due to food spills - changing just part of the colourway would IMO look a bit odd and suggest something is being hidden?

Yes, we had a very similar motorhome to this and I never dared to pressure wash it, as the panel seals needed redoing periodically anyway. These things are built like caravans and flex a lot whilst moving, so as the sealant ages and loses elasticity, the risk of water ingress increases. We're going to go for a metal van conversion type of campervan next, as I grew tired of having to repair the thing every year! We loved it and had loads of fun all over the country and France, but mid 90s aged motorhomes do tend to need a lot of TLC...

Looking good Rob, you have done well there. There is a product on the market that you can use on those vents (and the other camper) if you seal the plastic then spray it on . I wish I could remember the name but sorry I can't. I would give the seats a clean and the rear ones, I don't think it is worth going to the expense of a recover. If I lived near you I would do it as a favour! I think you could have a roll up carpet, a large runner or as previously said use carpet tiles (commercial grade). They are hard wearing and can be replaced one at a time if they are too dirty to clean. You would need to buy an aluminum strip to fit around the door to keep them in place, just mitre the corners. I think if you paint the bumpers as you planned then the rest of the outside will look a bit dull so buffing is the answer. Good luck with the rest of the cleaning Rob. You could buy a wireless reversing camera so little or no wiring needed. Yes i think a cheap stereo would finish the job nicely. Thanks again Rob and Chris for another great video. 👍👍

Great job Rob. Best stuff I find to tackle the yellowing on the plastics especially on my caravan is Autoglyms Caravan and motorhome cleaner, spray that on the yellow plastics and it just dissolves in front of you're eyes brilliant stuff👍

As I said on the first video use Karndean vinyl, either sheet or plank. More expensive than standard vinyl but super hard wearing. the plank effect strips will be economical with little waste. Add a couple of whip edged rugs, sorted.

Carpet Rob defo. One thing Rob don't balance on steps like that,might not seem very high but if you come off especially with water flying about.Get a platform or part of a scaffold tower on locking wheels. Motorhome already looking good and will soon be retail ready!

Looks like it's transformed. Great cleaning. Personally I wouldn't have carpet near kitchen area, but a runner that can come up world be ideal, maybe apple grey to compliment the seats, could put grey carpet at front cab area. Can't wait to see finished product.

Hi Rob Great video as always. Would recommend Crusader Carpets for new set of carpets with bound edges. You provide a template and they do the rest. They did a great job with my campervan and it would finish off the hard work that you have already put into Motorhome. Cheers.

Don't worry about the obsessive detailers. Vehicles are meant to be used. They should be clean, but spending days on cleaning them means the owners are always worried about mud splashes or even going out in the rain.

I know I am late to the party, but I would have put down carpet over the linoleum - I'd use a tight weave and it would be the blue-ish color from the seats. Those seats are rad!!! Nice cleaning job - I want to try that cleaner on my old rig!

Keep the cab carpet as a template and get a replacement cut and trimmed to stop it fraying. Then a simple full length of carpet trimmed as well for the back. Hope you haven't damaged the van with the pressure washer, the seams can be less than robust. You need marigolds and a better step ladder but a very pleasing result.

I got most of my UV'd caravan white again using Cara Clean. I'll take your advice and hit the badly yellowed bit with rubbing compound. Don't put carpet down. A buyer will either think it's hiding problems or knock you down as they don't like the colour choice, or they may just think carpet is impractical. Put down a neutral lino. It's not expensive or beyond your skills to fit.
@darrylkennedy2125

Keep the lino in the back and supply a carpet runner to match the cab.get the edges bound and put on velcro carpet grippers. Do one for the side step door as well.

Excellent vid. These older van's do take a bit of cleaning but they are usually parked up for 7 months of the year. They are bound to get discoloured.. A Reversing camera is a very good idea.. As i said no fancy carpets in rear. Complete waste of time. Causes condensation and they stink after a while.👍
