My brother has had one of those little MGs for about six years now. Never heard a single complaint out of him. Nice cheap runabout for someone. As for the brand, it was the fastest growing car brand in the UK in 2022 and the HS was the biggest selling car earlier this year. MG is definitely on the march and I suspect you'll be doing a lot more in the years to come.

yep, I knew within a couple of minutes of the intro it'd be the matrix, had one go in an old ford escort. Most people will not even think about a heater matrix. You usually do get a sweet smell of the coolant if you pay attention when it starts steaming, though it can look like smoke to some. Nice car you got there at a fantastic price, great find guys.

Had this before, undo centre console panelling on the drivers side and right up behind the clutch pedal you will see two metal pipes, these come from the engine bulkhead to the heater matrix. There is two joins, both use O-Rings that fail similar to the Ford Focus Mk2-3 heater matrix leaks. Replacement set of O-rings and its sorted. Add some heat resistant silicone for good measure. No need to take the dashboard out!

I was following a UK website back in the 2000-teens when these China-MG's came out. They sold poorly, parts from the maker and dealers was very difficult to get, I think they evolved into more of an EV brand now. Still, at 500 Quid, plus may another 200 in parts, fluids, the car wash, you will get back your 'sweat equity' doing the replacement of the heater core and other work and still make a profit. I guess it will go for 1300-1500 ?

A fair chunk of labour for you, to get the dashboard out, but a reasonable price for the spares on top of the £500. Yes, it is 7 years old now, so not a shiny new car, but once the water leak is sorted it will be a little honest, inexpensive means of transport for someone. It was something with the air of a small gamble, but with plenty of upsides to the deal. I can only say, you have a nice one there.

Loved the Birmingham comment - might have been better to mention the area in Birmingham it came from... Do you ever use a mobile paintless dent repair guy - might still be worth getting one in here on the nearside dents if just to show how he works. FWIW SAIC in China re-engineered the K series as the N series, curing most of the historic issues, although IIRC the MG3 engine has its origins in a GM/Vauxhall/Opel unit. FWIW Foursome Vehicle Heaters of Redditch, established over 40 years, themselves make in the UK a lot of replacement heater matrices but the MG3 one is not listed by them.
