Some fun facts about her and her videos. The boyfriend was her manager and her real life boyfriend. The guy at the diner was Captain Lou Albano (from WWE then WWF). The woman playing her mother actually is her mother. She plays her mother in girls just wanna have fun (Lou Albano plays her father in that video).

Back in the 80s, Cyndi and Madonna were the two big female artists. I could never understand why everyone wanted to be Madonna. Cyndi, to me, was always so much cooler, so much more interesting, so much more talented. I adore her and still do. Woman is a massive talent.

Cyndi Lauper is the artist whose music saved me as a child. No exaggeration there. At a very young age where I was isolated and felt like there was no one like me on earth and my peers told me that was true, she was a blazing bright light of gentle but fully unapologetic uniqueness in the world. I thought as kid countless times, "Cyndi is amazing and unlike anyone else in the world and if she can make a place for herself then maybe I can too." Her music and public personna gave me hope that there was a place in the world for unusual people and I held onto that until I reached young adulthood and finally found my tribe in the world. I am so very glad you've found her. She is a powerhouse vocalist, a brilliant songwriter, a one of a kind showperson... I look forward to you exploring her many other sensational songs. She is one of the bright lights in this world making it a better place to live.

I have the same experience but with an other artist. I´m writing here because I now what it is like and want to tell you how great it is of you to share this. Artist as role models are so important and I believe have saved a lot of people from feeling lonely and like misfits. When your young and feel like you different from the people aronud you it´s easy to think that there is something wrong with you even though of course it isn´t. Arists can help through music, lyrics and persona. Cyndi is such a good role model with her way of standing up for herself. (My hero is Brian Wilson, not the best role model but the absolute greatest survivor. His music very literally saved me.) All the best! 🌺🌼🌸

That has to be the most authentic reaction I've seen to Cyndi... She has an amazing voice and I'm not ashamed to admit as a 54 year old man I've cried listening to her. On another note, the professional wrestler Captain Lou Albano has been featured in a couple of Cyndi Lauper videos including this one, he is the cook in the diner in this video, and also played her father in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun video, also the person playing her mother in her videos is her birth mother. Fun fact: in the live version of the song Money Changes Everything a young woman runs on stage to hug Cyndi.....that woman is Martika, she sings a song called Toy Soldiers...well worth a listen.

It really shows off her profound emotional quality, her musical beauty, and her unique style - all in one. Also, Girls Just Want To Have Fun is not just a throw away song. 100% worth a deep dive listen, because it truly is a thing of beauty and brilliance, wrapped up in a perfect pop song. I usually only comment on rock songs, but Cyndi is absolutely a real deal, heavy hitting, legend. And thank you for being such an awesome appreciator of music, Sal! Even wandered out into the audience, climbed up on a chair, damn near fell off, the cowboy standing there caught her. grin. She just continued while holding on to his shoulder. Back on stage, she brought her kids out. Her part of the show was worth a dozen of Chers. I’d got see her again in a heartbeat. Cher? Eh. Been there done that.

If you want to see something really fun, check out her cover of "If I Could Turn Back Time" from the Kennedy Center in 2018, honoring Cher.

I grew up listening to Cindy. I was in primary school when she had her hits. We all wanted to be Cindy.

I was in love with Cyndi Lauper when she came out. I thought she was beautiful, quirky, and that voice, was so fantasticly different than anyone else. I cannot tell you how many nights I fell asleep listening to her in my Sony Walkman headphones. She has lots of great songs but as already suggested, you should really listen to "All Through the Night"

Cindy, Madonna and Sheena Easton never left my dad's playlist. 😁 I love listening to them in a rainy day.

Cindy wrote the song pretty quickly. She saw in the TV Guide that the movie "Time After Time" was coming on, and stole the title. LOL

If you watch the 1st time she appeared on the Johnny Carson Show in 1984, she plays Girls just Want to Have Fun....and Time After Time.....and does some interview with Johnny. She is quite the character...

The guitar solo is, oh my goodness, pure melancholy and sweetness, I still remember how it used to make my heart burst! Just like tonight, remembering a distant 1984 while tears fall, just like back then.
