Everything Fiona sings is from her soul. That’s why there’s such a gap in years between albums. She writes for therapy when she needs a way to emotionally release pain, sorrow, love, anxiety…

Fioona is well worth exploring more--intense, emotional, raw and above all an artist who is an extremely talented lyricist. She's great live and on album.

IMO she is the best of the female singers to come along post 70's along with SIA (Zero 7 years) - You want a banger from her check out "Fast as you can"

From the opening lines "So be it, I'm your crowbar. That's what I am so far..." I hung onto her every word and she sung them like her life depended on it. This song reminded me of what a gifted artist she is despite not having heard her music in many years. It is exceptional. I look forward to going into her back catalog. Thanks adding this to the channel.

Fiona Apple is one of my favs. Her voice is so sultry and lyrics profound. “Shadowboxer” and “Criminal” are a couple of her more air-played songs. Highly recommend giving these a listen as well.

I'm a metal musician and this song crushes me every time. Reminds of a special woman I met whilst my divorce, and I lost a great woman who tried to help me.

fiona is BLOODY MESMERIZING. her lyrical sophistication, especially in her teenage years, with that smokey, sultry delivery just knocks me out. though it's her big "hit" i recommend you check out "criminal" next - it's superb in every way ❤

I started listening to her as a teen and during this phase of life I endured so much confusion, anger, pain, and loss. Her music literally gave me an outlet to release these emotions. She is everything...

Thank you for this reaction to Fiona Apple. She's one of the more under-appreciated singer / songwriters of the last half-century. A throwback vocal talent and a poetic lyricist. Everything is so delicate yet so controlled and deliberate. The emotion comes through because she bleeds out every performance, her music is so personal to her. This is probably my favourite performance of hers. She somehow sounds better live than in the studio too. One note on this song - and it's inherent beauty - is how she ends the song by leaving the listener hanging purposefully not singing the last lyric (which is the song's title), yet you can feel the lyric expressed... especially in this live performance where you can feel it radiating from her... it's worth another watch of the ending to see how she doesn't say "I know". Lastly, if you want some context to what a titanic talent she is (despite not being as well known as she should be) check out one of the very first songs she ever wrote called "Never is a Promise". She wrote this masterpiece when she was 14 years old, and it was eventually on a tape someone passed off to an exec that got her discovered. Here is a live version of her (at about 19 years old) singing this track: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5fXmZ2HfNKFo7M

That was a good performance, but still an odd choice for an introduction to Fiona. All twenty songs on her first two albums are with a backing band, including the album version of this one, so her singing with just a piano is not the usual at all. Her first album, _Tidal_ , had the big hit 'Criminal" , but it's a rocking cut with a full band. Her second album, (which I'm pretty sure set a record for longest album title at the time, the whole thing is _huge_ ) also had two singles, but this is not one of them. Not a bad song, just a odd choice that doesn't let you know what she typically sounds like. Next, I'd go for "Criminal" and/or "Sleep to Dream" off the first album to hear the introduction almost everyone else got, or "Extraordinary Machine" and/or "Tymps (The Sick in the Head Song)" from the third if you want the more mature and creative Fiona.
