Think about it like this: on the outro, he knew he screwed up on the final descending run, corrected it by playing notes that would fit, and didn't even miss a beat. I have covered this song so many times, I know that final run without even thinking about it, and even I had to go, "Wait a second, that's not how it's normally played!" Yet, he pulled it off without a problem. All guitarists make mistakes; great ones like Gary keep you from ever noticing.

The Les Paul, Gary Moore regularly played has its own history. Gibson made reissue replicas that sell for $50,000… The guitar is known as Greeny… named for its original owner Peter Green. It has changed hands many times through various musicians and collectors. It has sold for up to… $2,000,000 … that’s TWO-MILLION-DOLLARS. It is said by the musicians that have played it that no other guitar plays and sounds exactly like Greeny. I have read that there was a mistake made at the factory in the wiring of the pickups and that is part of its unique tone. Kirk Hammett of Metallica now owns Greeny. (Stradivarious in the hands of a master… but Moore could make any guitar sing.)

Gary told a story of his recording sessions. He would do his bit in one take and the other musicians would tell him to go away and write another song while they recorded their bit. So that’s what he did. I miss him so much.

Gary Moore doesnt have a history, he left a legacy. Definitely tap into his work with Thin Lizzy and after his "conversion" to contemporary blues but might I suggest his solo rock effort, "Corridors of Power" album next as, IMHO it's his stand out Rock album and solo performance of his virtuoso days. Then maybe tap into his post Blues Rock conversion stuff. There is a special magic in EVERY project Gary Moore was in on, whether it was his rowdy, pre Lizzy, punk infused, euro blues rock of the early 70s or his more mellow, contemporary blues rock later on. He will be greatly missed. A GOAT for sure.

Gary was unique, everyone has their reason why his guy is the GOAT, I accept that. But for me it’s the pure emotion on playing that guitar, you usually say that the guitar is the extension of the guitarist, but with Gary it’s the opposite, HE was the extension of the guitar, and you see that in almost every note he plays!! “The Messiah will come again” from this same concert is another must listen, and you will understand why when you hear it, but also “Parisienne Walkways” the the same festival, but 20 years later, so 2010, is another one. Although there are many great versions of this song live, this one for me is the best, and unfortunately also one of his last performances. Another unforgettable live performance is “Separate Ways” from the Town & Country Club in London 1992, a small club, but an amazing concert just before he went on tour that year. And these are just 3 of his best Blues performances, I won’t start with his countless performances before that in his Rock era, just too many 😅

Ronnie Montrose while playing a concert with Edgar Winter had his beloved 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitar stolen. Ronnie tried for years to find his beloved vintage guitar. He spotted Gary playing it in a video and tried through the courts to get it back. Ronnie believed that Gary bought the guitar not knowing that it was stolen. I think they both died before getting the matter resolved.

I’ve known of Gary Moore as a great guitarist from lists, but never investigated his work. Only playing that measures up to this in blues right now I think is Joe Bonamassa. You know you are watching a master guitar player when you see them changing the volume and tone knobs on a pickup they aren't even using. They can then simply bend a string up and hit a knob for a completely different sound while lowering the string. Why would he put in all this extra effort? Because it is easy for him to completely change the tone effortlessly. This reminds me of Ted Nugent on his byrdland gibson.
