Sam Bankman-Fried: 10 Things to Do BEFORE Going To Federal Prison

White Collar Advice

Жыл бұрын

A journalist writing a piece about White Collar Advice asked me to offer some things Sam Bankman-Fried should not do in federal prison. I told him I wasn’t going to do it. He laughed and asked again!
"He has yet to plead guilty or be convicted. Maybe he will prevail at trial," I said.
"Justin, please. Just give me the content!!!"
"No," I said, "but I will offer you 10 things he should do BEFORE he goes to federal prison. Deal?!"
"FINE!" he said.
I share those 10 things in this video. I am sure there are a million more things I could have covered...
Best,
Justin Paperny

Thanks! I'm not going to prison, but I need to put some of these suggestions into practice on the outside! More exercise, writing, book reports, etc. Blessings!!

I was about to write a similar comment. Good advice (maybe not the bright lights during sleep) but the others are like a retreat from day to day which can be refreshing. Mr. Paperny is helping more than just crooks. He was one and look how well he is doing now. Hope demonstrated by real life.

I had to laugh when you suggested SBF take cold showers, that being an invigorating thing to do. Some 55 years ago I was a PC Volunteer in the boondocks of West Africa. My drinking and bathing water came from rainwater that ran off a tin roof of my mud hut into a barrel. The water was cold and I “showered” by absorbing water into a sponge and then squeezing the sponge over my head. Invigorating, as you say, and I grew to like it. I thought I would take cold showers when I returned to the States. But I never did.

So did I. Going through a government investigation can be very depressing without the appropriate plan. Many people, including me, make bad choices they later come to regret.

@@WhiteCollarAdviceOfficial I'm that way myself. one thing you said about privacy and reading stood out to me. I did 3 months in county jail in 1990 and I had work release split for a mail route twice a day so I slept during the day when everyone was gone and at night would go into the bathroom and read while they were all sleeping and snoring. Just a little some I could relate to. Thanks for the video and hope I never need to use this advice lol.

I've been retired for a few years. I had all these plans, then covid, then some health issues. So I haven't done as much as I've wanted. Before I retired, I made a list of books I wanted to read, and I've read quite a few, but if you asked me about them, I could probably give you 3 sentences. Writing a book report is a good idea for anyone who has a lot of unstructured time and actually wants to read with purpose, so thanks for the suggestion. "Learn to endure heartache and pain." Dude, I went to Catholic school for 12 years. I'm good. 😄

Here is what this video made me realize: In the real world, you have to go to work every day at the same time and do and learn what you are told. After work and on weekends you have to schlep your kids around and remind yourself of how to teach them algebra. You have to worry about how to manage your budget and where to invest. You have to do what your wife wants, including sex on demand ("don't be silly, men are always in the mood" she says). You have to go to church on Sunday and are obligated to show up for Yom Kipper and knock yourself out putting on a Sedar every year, no excuse allowed. Camping with the Boy Scouts is fun, right, but what 45 year old wants to become exhausted by spending Saturday night sleeping on the ground in the cold and the rain, cleaning and putting away the gear, and going to work on Monday? You have to take care of the house and lawn. Justin, you have yet to learn that a vacation to Disney with the kids is an expensive debilitating ordeal. You are not free at all, if you take time for yourself you are heavily criticized for being lazy. You have already explained how you stress eat, don't exercise and become fat and out of shape. How are you compensated for those chains?: Merely a warm shower, and darkness at night. Hardly worth it. In prison, you have no responsibilities. You can be alone and concentrate on yourself, your exercise, your reading, your self improvement. You have an automatic widely accepted excuse to be clear of life's obligations. You get free meals, free room , free health care, free exercise, time to read what you want and write. Feel great about yourself by losing weight, getting ripped, and learning what interests you. Nearly the only price to be paid is you can't have a snack anytime you want. Tell me, Justin, in your reply, what is not to like? You are a prime example of how anyone can be productive , enjoy the prison journey, and come out better for it. Summary: If you think prison is onerous, try genuine life. My new goal: Take your advice and follow your very excellent example to get caught in a White Collar crime, lie to the FBI to ensure a beneficial and satisfying prison travel adventure. Then become a coach. Note to self: Buy a big microphone and bright white earbuds for show on youtube

I’m anxious to hear your interview with Lindsie Chrisley. The family seems to be in total denial of their transgressions. Please don’t gloss over why they are in jail in the first place. They still say they are innocent! They need your advice; your tough advice. Own their actions. I hope you are in a position give it to them straight. They are NOW interested in prison reform? Only because it’s self-serving. Very privileged. Rubs me the wrong way. It’s good to shed light on this issue, of course, but Todd, Julie, et al, had no interest in prison life before THEIR sentencing. If I may, your interview with client Jen Shah was disappointing. I wanted you to yell at her(okay, not yell, but possibly be a bit more aggressive) and have her admit to her bad past behavior and own it. You always mention this as important, yet Shah didn’t elaborate on her past awful behavior and impact on victims. I know she was/is your client, and I think that was obvious in the interview. You’re too nice Keep up the good work!
@WhiteCollarAdviceOfficial
@WhiteCollarAdviceOfficial Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your honest feedback. To the Chrisleys, I, too, didn’t care about reform until I was in prison. To Jen, my job, as her coach, was to help her create a plan moving forward. Can’t change the past. She said she’s sorry, understands she created victims. Don’t know what else to do but look forward and hold her accountable. I hope you like my interview with Lindsie. She’s terrific and she never complains.

Great advice, and a great piece! Now about the Bank not-Free'd Man Crook: 6 months later...he's in jail and complaining about his Vegan diet, living on bread, peanut butter, and water, and that there's a 'shaky internet connection.' No video games, WTF? The poor thing can't even have his circus hair stylist come in and clown-up his hairdo, etc. I feel so, so, so happy, oops, I mean, sorry, for the dude. Sam should get at minimum 50 yrs in prison so when he gets out he will be to old to enjoy money he has stashed away and he's parents should pass away by then , and most of the money he has stashed will be gone do to by then the other cons where he has his stolen money stashed will go bankrupt by then and also be in prison or on the run
