Sam is notoriously private. Perhaps we haven't seen the way he looks at his partners over the years because he doesn't want us to. But there is something special between them. Why you all think she broke his heart? I didn’t think they were ever in love, just two friends and colleagues who enjoy each other’s company. I think they both had this friendship that in our day and time we call them “besties” the one you can call on when you down and the one you can be silly with without holding anything back. I don’t think neither of them will lie about something that is not true so if they both say they just friends then I think they are. That’s just my take on it but again I don’t know them personally but I think they are sincere about the friendship thing and nobody really got hurt. He was at her wedding and even have been in pictures with her and her husband while they are socializing at public events before Covid 19.

Sometimes some people keep the truth safe in their hearts forever. Sally Field and James Garner never did tell if they had "something", though she got teary eyed with tiny smiles and he got wistful and quiet if anyone asked. They never agreed nor denied. He took the secret between them to his grave and she said only "There could never be enough tears to show how sad I am." when he died. Sam and Cait may be the same. 2020 and they say neither yes or no. But he couldn't keep from looking, not just AT her but into her eyes. He loved her. Too bad when something like that has to be temporary and hidden. Love like that should be shouted from the rooftops.

Thank you this t was put together beautifully. We, who don’t know them personally can only surmise but definitely acting the ‘feelings’ off screen would have been part of the scripting probably but the looks, well they were truly so believable as something more intimate. Time will tell but the comments of where they were in their careers shows....different goals and timing. Nevertheless we are grateful for their acting capabilities that they can raise themselves to be professional in their work no matter their true feelings of each other😊🌈👏👏

They started in September 2013 filming. I have had chemistry with someone. This is for real. I think they were in a relationship from end of 2013 until middle of 2017. She was pushing 38 and wanted a family. She got tired of waiting on him to make it permanent. She took second choice McGill. There is definitely a difference in their behavior about the end of 2017 on interviews. They still have chemistry but are trying to control it. It may be hard to do for a long period of time. Time will tell. Marriage may not last if the problem keep staring her in the face. He is interested in his career. He may have lost the love of his life.

He IMHO is undoubtedly making up for a not so carefree childhood... his life has not exactly been easy at all.. not even parts of his young adulthood! They may have been in love but it's over, she married Anthony Mc Gill some time this year, & one of her last interview I did see in 2019 with all the crew, was so sad, they both had lost this beautiful sparkle full of love they did have they could hardly look each others. I felt very sad, but sometime, working & falling in love at work can not be mix this can bring friction at some stage. I know what I am talking about working together lost me the love of my life????? hope they can one day miss each others & return together.

I think somewhere between the end of the 2nd and 3rd season, they had a relationship but had a bad break-up. You can tell their chemistry now has changed. They try to hide it but you can see it in the way he awkwardly tries to keep a distant at functions because I believe she is in a serious relationship now. The last season I thought suffered because of the change. Feel free to object, just my personal opinion.

Watching the interactions, chemistry and body language between these two, they ARE very much married in a way - that's the vibe that shows. I know Catriona is married; I pity her husband. From what shows here, I don't see that she is or maybe can be entirely his, and I would think he probably feels it. As for Sam, I pity him, because he and Catriona have been "married" AND very intimate in their roles for so long that I don't think he's ever going to find someone who can measure up to Catriona in his subconscious or build a relationship with him that will measure up to the fantasy, choreographed, but amazing "marriage" partnership he and Catriona share on Outlander. Even while I enjoy the show, what I see between them that they might consciously not be aware of themselves, makes me sad for them in their real lives...

Some of these comments are both hilarious and oddly disturbing all at once. You have two actors playing a fictional couple and some people have, for reasons not based in reality, decided that they MUST be a couple. Caitriona Balfe is engaged to be married to a man she has known for the last few years. Why people will not accept this fact borders on irrationality . To believe what is being depicted in these “ pieced-together” videos is a true exercise in magical thinking. People who create these videos have watched loads of interviews and behind-the-scenes episodes with Caitriona and Sam, and make their conclusions based on what they see and hear from the actors themselves. No need to be such an ass about it. There are thousands of films featuring love stories, some real life relationships begin on set (it would take a whole day to list all such cases here). But it is rare that actors playing a couple who are not in a relationship are so at ease with each other, know so much about each other, and actually behave like a happily married couple off set (Catriona herself admitted they do). Now, this is not just one 2-hour movie, these people have spent years together making the show, travelling together. The show is very demanding emotionally and physically, there're lots of things going on behind the scenes like athletic training, riding lessons etc, and it's hard to go through so much with another person for so long if there is no genuine chemistry and affection. Whether it is a romantic love or just a close friendship, the affection is there. People enjoy watching these two interact, and there is nothing wrong about it. It warms hearts to think these gorgeous actors genuinely like each other so much. If the way Sam always looks at Caitriona is just for show, well he is a damn good actor and never fails to disappoint. :)

I agree. I know she loves another man and i know he dated lot of beautiful girls but still cannot understand the way he looks at her. Don't say it is acting and their job. It works for 1 season or 2 not 7 years. There is something here and it is NOT acting like people says. It bother me that people think that the way they behave body language ect it is not sincere but acting. I think it is even more disrespectful to think it is not true. Still wanted to understand what we all see before our eyes and how he can date all these women and ahebis married and both never saw their face lightening as they are with each other. I just want to understand. I did tons of research on body language and there is something true here. I just struggle to connect what we see with their real life.
