Seems a lot of people don't understand what this song is about.... The song was written with the theme that neither knowledge nor education can dictate feelings, but that love "could make the world a wonderful place." The record label didn't take the song seriously but Cooke made sure it was recorded... After this song he started taking more of a stance in the civil rights movement which pretty clearly shows where his head was at when he was singing the song... African Americans were told all the time about how they don't know or understand complex things and here comes Cooke singing that love will make the world a better place not the fact that he's not well educated. Don't let the lighthearted tempo fool you, this song is profound.

Music is the only thing that can get my mind off of my negative feelings and feeling down in the dumps. Music was a great way for our soldiers to be able to get their attention off the awful stuff they had to go through in veitnam. Music is the best medicine that you don't need a prescription for. Love this song and became a fan of Sam Cooke simply by hearing this song. Still recall the first time I heard this song. During the summer of 1987 as I watched the scene in Witness where Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis were dancing in the barn with my late Grandpa Bob. Grandpa Bob always watched the best movies with me regardless of my age. Maybe watching the Deer Hunter as a seven year old in 1982 may have not of been the wisest of choices, but I always think of him whenever it’s on.
