Look at it this way : Sam went 4-0 before CMC got hurt. Then last season after CMC was traded away, and Sam came back from injury (and Matt Rhule was fired), he went 4-2 with these numbers (sans the final game against New Orleans where no one from either team played well) : - 1,100 yards - 8.8 yards/attempt - 9 TDs (7 passing 2 rushing) - 1 INT - 105.4 passer rating Sam started progressing last season and it's continuing now.
@patricktully9661 Жыл бұрын
On the naked boot @10:05 Trey Lance ran almost the exact same play to his arm side -different formation I believe - and the throw was virtually identical to Darnolds - slightly behind and takes a good catch to prevent a pick 6. Shan should either coach that concept up or omit it completely.
@oel734 Жыл бұрын

Can I ask if the idea is valid that you want to develop some level of a shallow out route repertoire, otherwise it makes it too easy for coverages to shade inside and not respect the quick flat game? Would you say that quick outs are, in a vacuum, somewhat unprofitable until you consider the idea of setting up double moves and creating space for wheels and stuff like that (I am not in coaching or any level of football, just a casual fan so maybe idk what I'm talking about here).

On the late flat. I am sure you know, but i think it is just a scheme choice to not block the EMOL. they want him in conflict, if he cheats to the QB then the pulling TE can seal him on a counter, and the TE who leaked late can seal the stack defender if he plays the pass or drive him down if he bites on the outside zone. It is beautiful watching Kittle and Juszczyk run routes right past defenders who are playing their run fit because they got put on the ground previously.

Jimmy used to get alot of crap for throwing seemingly stupid INTs now and then, but this is Kyle's offense. He WANTS you to be decisive even if now and then it's a muddled read because more times than not it will work. This is why Kyle likes Darnold more than Trey. Kyle knows he has a sh*t O-Line so he needs the QB to plant his foot and deliver quickly. The problem is that the WR might not run the route exactly like he's supposed to and the ball is delivered with anticipation to the wrong spot or like in this game the defender may take the wrong drop and disrupt it but at least the QB did his part.

Trey threw the exact same type of ball on the exact same type of play. Difference is that Trey was indecisive, waited too long, and the Defender had literally TWO HANDS on the football and dropped it. The Defender for Sam was going tthe other way and had to reach back behind him to get his finger-tips on the ball (so that was a great play by him) to tip it....but guess what? I'm a 49er and very eager to see Purdy this season, but if things go south I wouldn't mind Sam Darnold starting. Much prefer him over Lance, I even take Allen over Lance at this point. We don't need a "spectecular flashy superstar QB", we need a guy who is calm enough and gets the ball to our playmakers, we got plenty of targets. Purdy and Darnold do exactly that and Sam has the experience of 55 NFL games under his belt. With this offense, if we can get the O-Line fixed, I have all the faith in Sam Darnold to get things done.
