The reason you are getting push back from designers and blue collar guys is because 99% of the time when clients ask for something atypical they end up regretting it and it becomes a nightmare not for the client but for the guy building the thing. We deal with this all the time at my job. I mean imagine going to a tattoo shop and you're like bro give me a my little pony design on my forehead. The artist is going to be uncomfortable with that because you're probably going to regret it and then you'll be blaming him and saying he should have talked you out of it. And maybe you aren't like that but 99% of clients are. That's why they don't want to approve a flat roof on your house because when it snows and the ceiling collapses the inspector is going to get interrogated by the police and lawyers and end up in a 20 year legal battle with you even though you are the one who asked for it.

Nick, I just finished contracting a large addition on my house. You're absolutely correct that each sub contractor has their own personality and style. Some are hard asses, some play their cards close to the chest, others are really cool. I stood around talking with them for hours about whatever. For me, if they were willing to answer my questions and seemed good with money, that made a difference. People desperate for money aren't focused on the job, they're focused on their money. Some pretty expensive kit they're looking into. I'm skeptical Sam and his crew will be able to get the most out of it though. Also not all anamorphic lenses are expensive. They can range anywhere from three grand to over a hundred grand depending on how complex the lens is. Why he's going that expensive on a camera lens for a talk show is anyones guess though. You would think he was trying to make a Stanley Kubrick movie.

Famous House was very interesting to me. And the ending was something I wasn't expecting at all when we started the season. He's right Flat roofs suck, if you can design it with a 1/12 slope or 2/12 so it looks flat, but with enough slope that you will have less problems later on. the only extra expense will be using ice sheet on the full roof rather than just the edges on 1/12 or 2/12. A Flat roof will be expensive to build and will need to be maintained more often
