Sam's life was strange and unique. Early in his life, he preached the gospel, like his father, but after some traumatic negative things happened in his life, he lost his faith, and began his career in comedy. He totally fell into the life of the famous including all the drugs, drink and women. His rise was quick. At the top of his game, he married, and all seemed good. But only days later, while driving with his wife and others following, was hit headon in wreck. His brother who was in the other car reach sam and reported that sam was still alive, and was talking, but seemingly to someone unseen. His brother said later that sam kept repeating that he didn't want to die. He then after a few seconds said, oh, ok then, and passed away. One might say that sam was given the chance to live both sides of this life, but in the end, went with God. RIP Although I doubt Sam is resting to much

I always said Arsenio Hall was the obvious choice to take over the Tonight Show when Johnny Carson retired. Arsenio had the best interviewing style of ALL the late night guys, then and now. Notice how he lets a guest just go wild and open up, do his thing, entertain. He has a list if questions, but if the guest interrupts him, re recedes and allows the interviewee to take over. It's not an interrogation. AND, he engages with the guest, effectively. Leno was good at this, Conan is okay, but they tend to make it about themselves a lot. Letterman's a trainwreck; he does better with all his side projects, Top Ten, viewer mail, recurring characters, banter with Paul, live music guests. Lousy interviewer. But Arsenio was the one.

Hall sealed his fate when he had Farrakhan on his show, against the wishes of his show's producers. Also, his confrontation with a gay member of his audience didn't endear him to the gereral-viewing public. Had he stuck with his 'comedic approach' as a talk show host, he might still be here today!
