finally... an OSL tutorial where someone doesn't just squirt an air brush at it and call it done... Really nice work, but then it always is... Tell you what... I wouldn't mind seeing you run through a mini in the way you did with the GW contrast paint post... still the best contrast figure I've seen to date. Loving the channel.

Top video Sam. The message I got was to pick a main scheme then paint according to your own interpretation of colour mixtures for the finer and edge details keeping in mind how light acts to brighten edges and darken recesses. Good choice of mini for the topic ,as OSL to me only reads right if the source of light doesn't require an explanation (eg "they are standing next to a fire") otherwise it falls into the half done realm, like a joke that has people saying "I don't get it". Thanks for the video and in particular the words of encouragement to be bold even if only in small amounts. Cheers.

Nice Sam! Great vid. I have to apply this to my current project. What do you think about adding in blue in some areas as thats how natural flames look? The transition from blue>yellow>orange. Because that's what I've envisioned for my project dealing with fire and OSL, but im having a bit of a time executing. This vid will help a ton!

I think that you did a very good job on your Voice Over Narration work on this video. My only suggestion would be if you're going to have a longer section of video without the VO Narration like you kind of have in this video at one point, let the viewers know that it's going to happen. But really a great and very informative video! Thank you Sam!

Hmm, I think a magneta color would work well as the base and gradually adding pink and then white to that. Murderous magenta from P3 I would say. I don't own any pink haha, I always mix it up by adding white to red. Cheers!

Why was the sword not painted at all, considering that it would be highly reflective and it's angled in such a way that there would be some kind of specular reflection from the head observable in it from basically any angle you look at it?

@SamLenzArtwork
@SamLenzArtwork 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Fons, glad you enjoyed it! The rule of three applies glazes as well. What I'm telling myself is that it takes a minimum of three coats to see a pleasing result. Often times it takes more coats. Cheers!

@spaal6115 4 жыл бұрын
You along with Sorastro have really shown me that OSL isn't quite as intimidating as many may think. Especially if you're already comfortable with glazing colors to start or assist in a transition. Just gotta take that leap and give it a shot myself!

Love the tutorial Sam, very informative as usual. One suggestion I would make: I used to film my videos and narrate over them as you did in this video, but I've moved away from doing that and I feel like it has made my videos more concise and engaging. Now I pre film the content, and then write out a script in a google doc while re-watching my footage. I then record myself talking my script at the camera, and cut that together with my footage in-post. I have found that this really removes a lot of the thinking pauses from my speech pattern, and makes my videos easier to follow. With that said, I'm going to enjoy your videos either way, love the content. Sorry for the unsolicited advice.
