Had a great time talking to you and thanks for everything as soon as I get out of church tomorrow I’ll work on getting my video out. Had an amazing time on Woodward Avenue and after seeing your car I can’t wait to keep improving on mine.

Sam, older cars are hungry for someone to work on them. I enjoy working on them, as much as cruising in them. Your Edsel is a solid car to start with... It's a 60 year old car, so of course it will need work. Most are long gone, even before I got into the car hobby 41 years ago, most were already scrapped. You have a great family. Glad to see they enjoy the classic as much as you. Keep at it.... the cars and videos. Glad you stopped by. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family. Any time your in Michigan, your welcome to stop by. Howard

1950s American cars will literally never go out of style. So many subtle little nods to that era of design on today’s cars

You have a real nice Edsel car they're young man, keep the good work up. You're our future to keep up these old cars. I drive nothing but old classics myself, and I'm 68 years old, won't drive nothing but the oldies I love them.

This day may very well represent the quintessential perfect day: classic iron, leisurely cruise, and cross-generations conversing like fast-friends. Thank you for sharing your experience!

My dad bought 3 Edsels, 1 of them was a 59 Edsel Villager, a 9 passanger station wagon with ac. The other 2 a 58 4dr sedan Pacer, the other a 58 4 dr HARDTOP Citation. These cars were my dad's favorites. Including the 58 MERCURYS.😊 Your 59 is just marvelous. 👋✌️☺️👍 THANKS for sharing this with me 😌✌️👍

Nice to see a car from the Cleveland area! I grew up in nearby Euclid. In my early automotive career I took apart an Edsel 361 engine for a Valve job. To my surprise I found that the combustion chambers were all machined and not cast. Edsel was the only Ford product to do this! Smooth idle and quick throttle response. The 361 I took apart was based on the Ford FE block - like the 352, 390, 428, etc.Back in the day, we all thought the Edsel would be around for a long time. --- Oh well!

You have some amazing kids there.... your very lucky! I think it's awesome Sam loves the older cars. Thats very rare for younger guys, to be into the older iron. People like Sam are the future for the cars of that era. I am so glad he is saving some old iron. Old cars take lots of time to fix up. There is always something that need to be done on them. Thats part of the car hobby. I still have all that trim in the trunk of my Bel Air, but I don't worry about it. One day I will install it. I am also hoping someone see his video on the 59 Edsel the guy wants to derby, and ends up buying and saving it... at least for parts. It's to solid to destroy, and it would be a gold mine in parts... saving many other 59 Edsel's. Thank you. I enjoyed your visit. Glad you got to see the craziness of the Woodward Dream Cruise. Howard

This is the dream to own an old car like this once I get a job. I want a 1957 Plymouth though. I really like the 58 Edsels.

Very cool Edsel. Like you said in your video yesterday, I love seeing cars that are different. Muscle cars are cool, but the everyday stuff from back in the day that rusted out of existence is what I like the best. I’ll have to check out his channel. Thanks for sharing

Most modern cars lack personality, but there's none of that here. Fixing things on a car means getting to know it intimately and a relationship blossoms, etc. lol. 1959; What a superb year for Out of this World car styling. Cheeers

To overcome the overheat issue on the Edsel, remove the waterpump/engines fan and install a fan with a temp sensitive clutch, or install 1 large pusher, or 2 puller fans on the engine side of the radiator. Changing the thermostat doesn't hurt either.....

They'll know you arrived..... In a 58 Edsel! For as much as you drive the 59, I'd look for a later Saginaw 3 speed that has good synchros. The "double clutching" would make me nuts. They're plentiful and cheap. Just put the original off to the side and hold onto it.
@OldCarAlley5 жыл бұрын
Thats a cool Edsel ad. As far as the trans goes, I just like to keep it original. Double clutching is only needed if I am still moving, and I want to get back into 1st gear.... it's really no big deal. I did replace the synchro clutch four or five years ago, so second and third shift without double clutching. If on the odd chance I ever did change the trans, I would change it to a automatic... but doubt I would ever do that either.

People who derby these cars need prison time. Enstead of child protective services we need car protective services.
