This is why the Allblacks "aura" is gone. Too happy clappy, too nice. The media has been complicit in their downfall. Its harder to lose your spot in the team than it is to get in to it.

If Sam Whitelock comes back for the All Blacks, he'll play minimal games and will be off the bench. This experience and tactics in the lineout will be nothing but pure guidance for the younger locks that are coming through. He won't make it to the 2027 RWC, and I only believe he'll be around for a year, maybe two at the best.

Exactly how I see his return. It's only to bleed his experience into the next lot and then phase out slowly.

The Boks won the last world cup using overseas-based players. With 600-plus Kiwis playing in other parts of the world, can NZ win another WC without dipping into that talent pool?

Has there been a review by the NZR to warrant such a move? What are the problems with NZR that requires such a change????? Sam Whitelock is one of greats BUT he is 35 and if you noticed that over the last 2 seasons his ability to get around the field at test level was struggling since the fact is that he has been there since 2010!!!! Would love to see Whitelock as a technical advisor but as a player NO!!!!

Quick question. Been watching the URC, English premiership and Super Rugby. South Africa and England have had good attendance eg Saracens v Harlequins 62k and Bulls v Stormers 50k. On average well above 20k per game. Super Rugby observationally looking a bit empty. Any reasons? Any impact on the business.
@deanhubbard2846
@deanhubbard2846 2 ай бұрын
We worry so much about super rugby and the elite level of rugby ,if we don't pay more attention to grass roots and our provincial competition,our standard of rugby is going to drop and we'll be left wondering where it all went wrong. There was more interest in rugby when the clubs and provinces were strong. We had something to support. For the smaller towns we could watch our club players playing for our provincial team and even the AB's, but now we don't get that. Provincial rugby is more like a good club game and who watches club rugby much anymore. Super rugby was great to start with, but now it's not really affordable to take the family to games. We're killing the game here in NZ. I believe that's why we now have to look at overseas players to survive.

If Sam comes back Razor won’t want him to play. Sam will be an excellent trainer for the up and coming losses and locks that NZR has on tap. Him and the likes of Scotty Barrett added to the training status of an already formidable coaching team for the All Blacks is a lot to contend with leading upto and into the next World Cup! Remember all the Locks and flankers that the All Blacks had on the bench at the last World Cup were still abit inexperienced but still are still learning their trade week in week out right now in Super Rugby Pacific. Papalii, Finau, Jacobsen, leawillie and the return of Brad Shields will welcome the statement of being coached by Whitelock.

Sam Whitlock experience is important to the team. Sam should be a player/ coach.He is expert on line outs. Sam Darry is 6ft 9 ins and he is the tallest lock in NZ. Darry is very good player too.I really like the look of Josh Lord he is over 2metres tall. These guys are the twin towers of NZ rugby. Sam Whitlock can help with development of these young guys. Scott Barrett is definitely our number one Lock.We need guys that good in the line out. Who is our best line out jumper in NZ?????
@WaferBrik

On the Blues' website Darry is listed at 2.03m, which would make him 6ft 6-1/2, about Andy Haden's size. You'd think that would be accurate but who knows?

What would be the point? As a contender for RWC 2027 at the age (then) of 39? Senseless. As a mentor? Sure. He certainly could make invaluable contributions. Otherwise I suggest has-beens should rather be left to relax and enjoy their grand children. Cheers from Safferland chaps!

Sam Whitelock retired from All Black Rugby, as he said, I truly wanted to go to France, and be with his brother , Luke, Sam has a Farm in South Hawkes Bay, he has been that true warrior, and supreme player, for NZ Rugby, but, he has given, and , just , leave him alone, now, NZ Rugby has so many , up and coming Rugby Players, whom want to achieve, at the , highest level, (just like Sam Whitelock back in the day)
