We explore an abandoned chateau with everything left behind.
Out in the beautiful, French countryside, the land is scattered with the sad remains of countless historic chateaux.
This 17th century mansion is an impressive example of this, abandoned for over 20 years.
These grand homes are no longer fit for purpose, requiring a large amount of money to renovate and even more to maintain, the wealthy families who once resided here, who passed them down through the generations, have by now moved elsewhere, leaving so many ancestral homes to fall into decay.
No attention to detail was spared, each and every room a work of art, adorned with renaissance paintings and ornate furnishings.
Once a large bustling family home, a shelter for their luxury lifestyle, now a dusty shadow of its former self.
Outside, we venture into an old barn, and get a reminder of just how long ago this place was inhabited.
Join us and discover what this abandoned château has to hide, all these years down the line…

I looked up Bonfills for you: Félix Adrien Bonfils (8 March 1831 - 1885) was a French photographer and writer who was active in the Middle East. He was one of the first commercial photographers to produce images of the Middle East on a large scale and amongst the first to employ a new method of colour photography, developed in 1880.

When I see the videos of such abandoned mansions with all the luxuries left to the test of time; I feel sad somewhere in the deep, feeling concern about the souls who lived there and the adverse circumstances they might have faced. The same might be the fate to many of us watching.

So heart breaking to see such a glorious building just standing unloved and unused. Especially when you spend years trying to find the perfect one to purchase! I would have this one in a heartbeat and my horses would look awesome pulling those carriages too. Stunning tour, better than most viewings we have had in France.

There was so much beauty within the walls of this chateau, the chandelier was incredible as was the ornate stove in one of the first rooms. The shot that took my breath was looking out the oval window. The archway of trees looking down the pathway sent me back in a different time. I could see the fancy carriages coming toward the mansion. What a place! Thank you for the tour.

A Wonderful Discovery indeed Sam and Jess. However, just to mention, It would have been highly appreciated if the 1884 PHOTOS were REPLACED PROPERLY in the Books in which you had originally found them instead of simply doubling them over and closing the one Book in which it was discovered ....... being exactly what was demonstrated in the video clip above here ..... with one of the more important photos you had both discovered ! ! !

An incredibly talented and traveled family...there are treasures buried in there that are priceless no doubt. Where did all the heirs disappear to? SHAME!!! It would be a wonderful miracle if some adventurous investor could take it over and ... surely it can't be left there like this for eternity? SO 💔

Nature is starting to reclaim it. I’m sure it will just rot away over time. The longer it’s left in disrepair, the harder or impossible it will be to restore. It may already have so much damage, that we can’t see, that deems it irreparable or more costly than anyone whom has the money is willing to invest (generally as they don’t get anything back from it). I agree, so very sad.

Great capture guys. I think these kinds of discoveries just show us that working so hard for grandeur/money/materialism really is just meaningless. We can’t take it with us and if there’s no one to take it over or can’t afford to, this is sadly where it ends. This is another example of stunning French architecture! It’s just simply breathtaking. Once lost, it’ll never be seen again, which is incredibly sad. When you document these buildings are you archiving them somewhere that in the future they can be viewed. So other people can discover (in a different format) just as you did.

Just found your channel. Thanks for showing us these magnificent places. It is such a shame that with so many wealthy people out there, millionaires, billionaires, that they just use some of their money which they wouldn’t be able to spend in their lifetime anyway, and restore these places for future generations. It would be as they say no skin off their nose. Keep up the great work. You look like lovely people as well, which is getting rare on utube, everyone out to show how beautiful they are and special. When they are just fake attention seekers. Greetings from Australia. Wish we had these kind of mansions here but unfortunately we are not an old enough country.

Hey Jess and Sam, the cupboards with the secret doors are called modesty rooms where the lady would change in private before going to bed and also would be would be used for the bed lined that would be for the bed the room as the bed would only just fit in the gap. Some of those also had a small set of shelves where you could keep your items before going to sleep like your reading glasses. I see if i can find more information for you. What a beautiful Chateau you went into. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Mad respect for you guys and your French country mates, for something so beautiful to sit there for all those years and nothing is vandalized blows my mind 🤯 I will never understand the mind of a person that would think, man that’s cool, let’s break it! Which is the mind set of pretty much every American unfortunately, I’ve been in a few abandoned places but never a untouched one, always graffiti and broken stuff, makes me ashamed of people in my country sometimes! That big beautiful house would have every inch of copper torn out and any little thing of value taken out, it would be a shell with nothing to see here in America, you guys are awesome, thank you!

The bedrooms up on the third floor, usually the servants' quarters (but well decked out for servants!). That was the initial purpose, when the mansion was built, and it seems turned into libraries after the massive servant era had come to a close. Fairly impressive with the number of servants' quarters up there, huge number of staff, primarily the housekeeping staff. The older wing may have been the original farm house, then more for ground/farm staff? Only a guess. But a lot of staff back in the day. There look to be more than a few Moët & Chandon bottles down in the cellar. They looked to have dabbled in their own wine at one point, as you do.

Hello loves! What an incredible château! Just those little hidden rooms in the recessed areas of the bedrooms were so you could get dressed and quickly slipped under the covers before your husband saw you. I have no idea how they made children back then! Lol😳 A proper lady could not be seen in her undergarments. They must’ve had massive children there. So many bedrooms. Beautiful stairs. I wonder if they had business links back in Egypt. They certainly were wealthy. Wonderful to see the carriages in the carriage house! So posh. I was terrified when Jess screamed. I wondered what she had seen I figured it had to be spiders. It was those were bad ass. And what was up with the evil babies killing the animals? That was just plain macabre. Did you ever find the kitchen. I wonder if that was somewhere in the basement. It usually was. Great explore guys great explore! Too bad it’s just left to rot. So sad. Thanks so much as always sending love💜🤟🏻😎🇺🇸🙏

If anyone now owns this home and land. I feel it's so selfish to just leave it to rot. When I'm sure so many people would to make it their home. Even splitting the home into 3 or even 6 apartments. It's a same that they have so much and care what happens to it.

Did you notice the piano was not dusty and in good order. I wonder if someone comes to visit once and a while and plays it.

My grandmother used to tell us kids those old mansions is where generations of a family lived where all their babies were born, and many of their elderly and sick passed away. So, it makes me wonder how many on average births and deaths has taken place over the years. I love architecture and various types of antiques and watching videos like yours is great just to see how they lived and how they changed with the times by adding bathrooms, plumbing, and electricity, etc. I could honestly spend days looking through a place like that. Thanks.

To me this is the most beautiful abounded mansion I have seen. I hate to see all of this beauty and artistry going to waste. Sometimes places do not look truly abandoned . Just no one there for a few years , When you see preparation to leave just stoped , the mystery is hard to take. I would love to know at least a little history of these unimaginable wealth and prominence.

Absolutely beautiful! If this place is not saved, there is a lot that can be salvaged and sold, like those stunning fireplace mantels and much more.
