If you want to be free, if you want to heal your relationship with God, with others and yourself, enter your inner room-the office, where the Divine Therapy takes place. Close the door so you don’t run away. Quiet your interior dialogue so that you can listen to what the Spirit is saying to you. An enormous Intelligence is guiding us through this process with a love that is unconditional and determined to bring about this healing, whatever the cost to Itself. Gregory the Great expressed it as “resting in God". Don’t judge centering prayer on the basis of how many thoughts come or how much peace you enjoy. The deeper one's awareness of one's powerlessness and the more desperate, the more willing one is to reach out for help. This help is offered in the next two steps. You turn yourself over to a Higher Power who you believe can heal you and work with you in the long journey of dismantling the emotional programs for happiness. They are the root causes of all our problems How should we handle these afflictive emotions? By facing them, by feeling them. Feelings that have been repressed have to be allowed to pass through our awareness once again in order to be left behind for good. The radical healing is the acceptance of the situation, because in some way God is present there. The real work of prayer is just to get rid of the very assumption that was the foundation of all these other modes of prayer. It is a matter of shifting the location of the sense of identity. The false self is deeply entrenched. We have to accept the idea that the word "I" does not have a fixed and clear and obvious referent. This is where the transformation that we undergo becomes more and more radical with each breakthrough or illumination. The contemplative journey, because it involves the purification of the unconscious, is not a magic carpet to bliss. It is an exercise of letting go of the false self, a humbling process, because it is the only self we know. Nothing is more helpful to reduce pride than the actual experience of self-knowledge. If we are discouraged by it, we have misunderstood its meaning. God has not promised to take away our trials, but to help us to change our attitudes toward them. That is what holiness really is. In this life, happiness is rooted in our basic attitude toward reality. For human beings, the most daunting challenge is to become fully human. For to become fully human, is to become fully divine. The Spirit calls us to transformation of our inmost being, and indeed of all our faculties, into the divine way of being and acting. Divine love picks us up when we sincerely believe nobody else will. We then begin to experience freedom, peace, calm, equanimity, and liberation from cravings A total surrender of ourselves to the spiritual journey is required When the presence of God emerges from our inmost being into our faculties, whether we walk down the street or drink a cup of soup, divine life is pouring into the world. God will bring people and events into our lives, and whatever we may think about them, they are designed for the evolution of this Divine life in us. Gifts of the Holy Spirit grow in direct proportion to the depth and sincerity of our love. To live in the presence of God on a continuous basis can become a kind of fourth dimension to our three-dimensional world, forming an invisible but real background to everything that we do or that happens in our lives. Silence is God's first language; everything else is a poor translation. Whatever we say about God is more unlike God than saying nothing. If we do say something, it can only be a pointer toward the Mystery that can never be articulated in words. All that words can do is point in the direction of the Mystery. Let Love Alone speak. ~ Father Thomas Keating

Overwhelmed with gratitude for this beautiful recording. I am 62 and have been on my spiritual journey since about 40. Each step of purification is so very painful, but takes me away from my small self and brings me closer and closer to my true Self. Of late, I have been shocked to discover that at my core, I am full of jealousy. It is so very shameful that I feel I can tell nobody about it. It is the single most humbling experience of my life as outwardly, everybody around me would say what a ‘nice’ person I was. They have no idea of the venom I feel inside. It has been unbearable, but this wonderful prayer/meditation with its ancient message of hope and transformation, has soothed my troubled mind. Thank you 🙏 Prayers, blessings and encouragement to all who choose to travel this difficult path ❤

Recently been diagnosed with MS. My research into meditation has brought me to centering prayer. I wanted an alternative to meditation to help calm my heart, mind and body each day. Including centering prayer, medication, exercise, diet and supplements I believe I can either beat this disease or at least hold it at bay. Calming myself is the first step in all this.

Deep gratitude for this and all of your uploads, Samaneri. ❤ Your measured, calming voice is rooted in spirit and facilitates deep healing. Of all days, I really needed this teaching/pointer. I'm 65 years old with probably 35 years of so-called personal growth behind me. The journey has been a long one and with so many powerful references points/experiences of transformation, I am still trying to break a lifelong need for other-validation. Liquidating the LACK has been the greatest challenge. The Obstacle is the Way! I have much less of that need to prove my worth now, yet one stubborn program has been the hardest to break: the seemingly unstoppable "do-do." It's so strange- this inability to stop and Be Here Now. I understand how important it is and I can quote many great lines from poems and philosophers that point to the necessity for contemplative prayer if one wants to experience peace. So here I am once again sitting quietly by Cup & Saucer Creek working to assimilate the pointers. 🙏🏽

Thank you for your comments, I completely identify with your words. The obstacle(thorn in one's side) is the way. It is at times quite painful yet I sit each morning for 20 minutes in silence, trusting despite the discomfort and doubts.

You speak so beautifully and provided the centering and uplift that I needed to keep me focussed on what was required right now. I have been going through many rituals over the past 4-5 months, with the focus on transformation, death and rebirth. I feel a big sense of sacrifice coming upon me, and hence the sadness and grief and melancholy comes from letting that which has been with me, perhaps all my life, but has served its purpose, and is not needed anymore. So, "Who am I now?" "Who am I without my suffering?" This video came along to assist me on this path of sacrificing that which is not needed for me to truly follow the path to Magnificence and Divinity. Thank you.

One must make the journey to the inner closet by the path through the storms, strongholds, demons, and monsters that we have invited in. To the place of Eden. Thank you. I am a devoted student of Fr. Thomas’ centering prayer practice. I belong to Contemplative Outreach, the organization he founded. However, I am inclined towards the teachers, like Lillian DeWaters (of whom I learned here on this channel) and the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta , which claim that we are already divine perfection, and we simply have to realize it, rather than “transform” into it or toward it. But I also must admit I have been transforming bit by bit in the spiritual practices- especially centering prayer and service to others. I am grateful for this.
