This meditation gives me so much of what I want and need. No one is telling me that I need to STOP THINKING or anything similar. Rather, I am being gently guided to focus without having to fight against anything. Everything is welcome. Nothing is wrong. I am just gradually walking toward the center. And what could be more central than breathing. I will return to this many times, I'm sure.

Thank you so much for this. For Lent this year I’m trying to build my silent meditation practice, but for a while I’ve been bogged down on whether I’m doing it correctly, am I using the right sacred word, should I focus or let go, etc. Your opening words struck a chord and provided a welcome reset, reminding me to keep it simple. 🙏

It doesn't really matter what you do, whether you choose to use prayer, mantra or sacred word as a skillful means to settle and focus the mind. Or none. What is more important is to look at the 'one' who doubts, struggles and questions whether they are doing it right. This will give you insight into this incessant thinking mind and constant doubting. Learn to understand that, to challenge that, and see through it. It is creating obstacles to inner peace and quietude and stirring up anxiety. A great teaching is available for you right there if you work with it with wisdom. This false sense of a 'me' or 'doer' has to be seen through. Relax, let that fraudster go, and rest in the silent stillness of the Heart. 💜

Dear friend, rested in this with you this morning with a soft winter snow coming down. Very compatible with this. Nice. I wonder if there is breath we hold, still, when we've left this body.? Or something else ? Just wondering. Much Metta.

Thank you, Sister, for this generous and beneficial guided anapanasati meditation. Slowly centered on the breath and physical qualities as initial self-stress and attachment then to gradual deepening awareness opening channels and self-associations to separate and feel the emptying like an hour glass as self-reference diminishes ( the breath quality changing, the body relaxing and mind as spacious). Personal insight recognition. "On whatever occasion a monk trains himself, 'I will breathe in...&...out focusing on inconstancy'; trains himself, 'I will breathe in...&...out focusing on dispassion'; trains himself, 'I will breathe in...&...out focusing on cessation'; trains himself, 'I will breathe in...&...out focusing on relinquishment': On that occasion the monk remains focused on mental qualities in & of themselves - ardent, alert, & mindful - putting aside greed & distress with reference to the world. He who sees with discernment the abandoning of greed & distress is one who watches carefully with equanimity, which is why the monk on that occasion remains focused on mental qualities in & of themselves - ardent, alert, & mindful - putting aside greed & distress with reference to the world. "This is how mindfulness of in-&-out breathing is developed & pursued so as to bring the four frames of reference to their culmination." MN 118

KZbin didn't auto-populate CCs for some reason for this one. I have tried to rectify but the timing seems a bit off. Here is the script: So for this meditation I'm going to offer a guided meditation on anapanasati Or mindfulness of breathing It's the simplest meditation object we can pick up. And we can pick it up In a way that's very relaxed And nurturing Healing And awakening The Buddha taught this breath meditation and remarked that this itself Can take us all the way To enlightenment No need for complications For complex theories or philosophies Simply being Observing our own breath We can awaken So as you sit comfortably Bring your attention To your breathing process Find a point Within your own body Where you can rest the mind with the breath Some of these points might be At the tip of the nose Or just under the nose The point above The upper lip The centre of the head the throat The upper chest Or the lower belly Abdomen Whatever point is most comfortable for you Simply make the commitment for this short meditation to give all your attention to the breath Noticing ff it's fast or slow Short or long Free flowing or obstructed And be only interested In the breath Abandon all interest In anything else Any ideas, Memories Fantasies Imaginations Abandon them all Any desires Reactions. They come We can't stop them from coming But we don't pick them up Our interest is only with the breath Absorbed fully With the in breath And the out breath Breathing in I'm aware I'm breathing in Breathing out Fully aware I'm breathing out We don't force the breath. We don't force or suppress the mind. Thoughts. Images. Emotions. Arise. Maybe they take our attention away. For a little while. But we wake up. We come back. With full enthusiasm and commitment. To being with the breath. Interested only in the breath. But your awareness. Is expansive. And broad. It's not confined and narrow. It's open. Fully embracing. The entire moment Each moment. And in this way the breath becomes expansive Relaxed. Calming And as we practice this more and more For longer periods of time. The Breath can take us deeper and deeper Into stillness Into quietude. Where the mind can see clearly. And understand the workings Of this so-called inner And outer world.
