Roll-on switchable, segmented batteries that can be at least partially re-charged OTG by a ram-air turbine (Like aircraft emergency power systems) or (Out-of-town) by a highly tuned miniature generator running on E10 or similar.

Not for the motorways, if you want to get the most out of your range. Use B mode, to regenerate instead of using brakes as much as possible, and take A and B roads as much as possible as the hills will make you go further.

I have a 2015 E-Nv200 with the 24kWh battery with 85% SOH. I can tell you that it HATES motorways and dual carriageway, I mean in terms of draining the battery! Mine is a work van as I'm a sparky and for those who are asking about range, well, at this time of year (winter) I get around 50 miles from 100% to almost empty with - - - showing on miles reading. This is mainly driving A roads at 50 or 60 MPH and taking it steady. In the summer it does improve and I get around 60 - 70 miles. For most of the time this is fine as I work locally BUT it can be frustrating if you want to say visit 2 or 3 different towns in one day. I love the van though don't get me wrong it's brilliant, but the 24kWh version is limited just be aware. I have enquired about upgrading the battery for the 40kWh version but atm this is very expensive. It might be better to wait for prices of the updated model to drop and buy that instead. Trust me, range anxiety is NOT fun haha! PS It is around 2-300 kgs load and roof rack. Cheers for the video.

I posted above, but will repost here too - you're spot on with the range at continuous higher speeds - I used to slipstream HGVs to get a bit more range 😬 We leased ours for 4 years, so have the new 40Kwh ones and can now get to sites we used to hire vans for. In city use, you get around 90-100 miles on a charge because you benefit from about 40% regenerated power from traffic stops (driven in B regen mode). We ran 2 in central London for 4 years, now on the 40Kwh versions that give about 180 miles city use. They are smoother to drive than an ICE vehicle, but I've not driven another EV yet so can't compare to them.

I know this is quit old now, but thanks Phil, for posting it. I have recently brought an ex British Gas van of the same spec. I too, will use it locally but I will occasionally have to do a 220 mile round trip, so that could be interesting. I also have a supplier I use that is 25 miles away, so I’m guessing, to go there and back I will need 1 short charge. Interesting to read you comments. Thanks again.

Sure, I’ve created a simple weekend conversion that allows the rear combi seats. Not sure if I should remove the rear bench seats, they do fold flat so for now I’ve left them in. Unfortunately when they unclip from the floor it still leaves a large metal box so it’s kind of a permanent thing.

Hi Sam, I have been watching the algorithms for a few years. It seems to me that regular posting and consistent content is more important than anything else. I have happy to do regular content, but I like to do videos on what I like, which is varied, much like your content. I must say that you videos are better edited. What i have noticed is that for people with relatively few initial views, there doesn't seem to be much point in doing premieres. I'd be glad to hear your thoughts, I did watch the video that you did on this topic. All the best.

I found it generates a double discovery spike, give it a go on your next video. Also it helps me organise and know what’s next and others can see too. It’s just a bit of fun.

So far I've only managed 180mile trips in a day in my ENV200-24. I find driving the ENV pretty comfortable really so it's a shame the 50mile "major road" range is all you get. Oh well, can't have it all. (I'm not tempted by 353miles though).

@SamButement 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cathy, It really depends on how far you drive daily. If less than 60 miles a day an older electric 24kwh van makes sense. However it’s a long term investment and it’s unlikely to be cheaper then your current van. I made a video “all in are electric van really cheaper.” It explains this in much more detail.

I've sourced a 24Kwh ENV200 for £13.5k. The odometer was 26k. Battery health 100% on the panel but 89% on Nissan Leaf Spy Pro. Regardless, I charged 100% and undertook a 64miles trip to Cambridge. Yes, I was running a risk of not getting there, so had a Honda generator in my boot with a cable rigged to charge without real earth (Neutral to Earth jumper). Having driven that, I had 7% left on my battery and I was driving 50-56mph and not using anything like heater or AC. If you plan to hammer it then better have a recovery plan from AA.

If you're going on regular long distance trips that could mean 2 or more rapid charges each way. Will this damage the battery?
@SamButement
@SamButement 3 жыл бұрын
For regular long distance use I would recommend a diesel or an EV that can do 300 miles on one charge like the Long range Tesla. Unfortunately it’s unlikely the EV will work out cheaper until about 5 years of ownership. Regular rapid charges are not practical and will reduce battery life.

@@SamButement These electric vans are quite cheap to buy used and it is possible to make cheap lifepo4 traction battery to drive longer and and charge much faster. It is possible because this van uses same motor and inverter as leaf so there are many hacks to get more power and install larger battery.

Hello, thanks for the review. Can you tell me what is the range of that van if she were loaded with 400 kg every day in a working day? In city work. Thanks and greettings from Portugal (in the 24kw pack)

@SamButement 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t have that information but 60 miles in winter would be reasonable. You can always rest your miles per kWh to give an estimate.

We ran 2 in central London for 4 years, now on the 40Kwh versions that give about 180 miles city use. Assume you'll only get 50-60% of the range on highways or motorways and consumption increases a lot over 70 mph due to wind resistance. They are smoother to drive than an ICE vehicle, but I've not driven another EV yet so can't compare to them.

would love an e-nv200 , seems one like yours is about 12k and new about 22k wish could find one up here in scotland , they are very hard to find. but would like to convert to camper, look forward to seeing yours converted for ideas :) thanks for sharing , 50 miles is quite a bit less than i expected, were you taking it easy?

Yes, mainly driving at 60 mph but sometimes 70. We just stayed in the slow lane and kept up with the traffic in front. There are quite a few for sale in Scotland. Best of luck.
