We go off on holiday in the fully electric Nissan Env200 7 Seater Combi. Loads of space in there for all our stuff. In years gone by we have taken 2 cars to get us all there, thats a thing of the past!
If these videos helped you, please feel free to send a little something my way to help cover the electricity used to power the Zoe :) / ruralleafowner

Very nice video Ian, you folks really give a good example to your kids that live without a fossil car is the future with your Zoe and eNV200! Great to see! Greetings from the other side of the Northsea;-)

Nice video Ian, looked like a very nice family holiday and the van seemed to work well. Glad to hear that your wife is still loving it. Happy wife happy life. Bet you both are enjoying having the level 2 charger at home. Makes for surprising quick turnaround even if the onboard charger is only one of the 3.6 kwhr models.

Great video. Really good of Center Parcs to have chargers! Can't wait for them to open up in Ireland next year. On the consumption difference, temperature would make a difference but also maybe a head or tail wind? The weather looked bad on the way up and better on the way down. Keep up the good work.

Cheers! Yeah 2 years ago when we went they had none, but were really kind and gave me a plug to use in their garage! But a proper setup now and its impressive to be fair to go to that length (and and no cost to the customer!) Regarding range, anythings possible I guess, the temp etc, but the biggest killer in this van is speed for sure - go 65 and the range plumits before your eyes, back off to 50 and its like my leaf was at 65 (if that makes sense!)

Cheers Kyle, would be good if they could get the 40kwh over to you - that thing would give 120 miles range on one charge no problem (maybe even 130)

Kyle Style: No incentive to sell the NV200, or the GM badged version (Chevy City Express) in EV form here in North America.....too much empty curb weight...and it would be extremely cost-prohibitive (piling-on batteries for one or more Packs) to get any Real-World range/on-time. If UPS/Fedx saw any benefit, they would have tons of them for Metro service...here in the US and abroad. Cargo ones already in service abroad;the results are mixed.

I bet your kids just love this electric car. "Dad, can we go out for the day in the rain & hang out on motorway services?"
@IanSampsonRLO

Kids are kids and they love the adventure - not fixed on games consoles all the time I guess! But as per video - ZERO charging on the way back due to be not making a mistake and also driving more efficiently after learning to get the best out of the Van. What the kids love is now being able to all drive in the same vehicle together instead of taking 2 cars as well as the adventure that is.

You need to do a spreadsheet Ian, with journey distance, temperature, etc that would tell you the speed to travel not to need those expensive top ups. Also, that little mistake really shows the need for planning your journey before you set off.

A great lesson on the realities of family holidays and you and your partner seem to cope admirably with what for many would be a hugely stressful experience. The 24 kwh battery gives a range that appears to be unsuitable for a people carrier and from what I have seen elsewhere the 40 kwh version is not significantly better. Hopefully the 60 kwh when released will at last give a suitable range but the charging speed also needs addressing. Nissan can and should be able to do better and carve out a market niche for themselves in much the same way as the ICE Espace did originally for Renault.

Cost of trip is irrespective of attendees (lodge sleeps up to 6), unless you want to do loads of activities that you have to pay for of course...then the costs soon rack up. Shane - you have to pay for a car whether petrol or electric. Price I paid was inline with most 'normal' ice cars in its class.....except the more I drive it the more it saves up until it hits a break even point (where it has paid for itself...this is approx year 5 of ownership on current milage forecast). Love it.

At 5£ for a partial charge of a 24kWh battery, Ecotricity has gone from free to quite expensive. Then again, looking up gasoline prices in the UK, you would have paid nearly three times as much for a conventional van to travel the same distance.

An interesting dilemma (ignoring costs), to do 70mph but have to stop to charge or do 55mph non stop.... P.S I love those little Pod Points - never had any issues with them or the app (Polar Instant (Chargemaster) take note how it should be done) and many of them are still free!
@IanSampsonRLO
@IanSampsonRLO 6 жыл бұрын
Defo 55mph. The Env200 get incredibly inefficient at the 70mph mark - it more or less means approx only 40mins of driving on the motorway. Link that in with 6-8 minutes to pull off the motorway, get to charger, get out, boot it up and start charging and 3-5 mins to leave the place....55mph much more efficient! :)

Great video Ian & family :) Two quick questions. What is the average miles per kWh from the e-NV200 do you think? I thought I briefly saw on the screen 3.3 miles/kWh as you toggled though. Is 3.5 miles/kWh achievable do you think? Also, does the e-NV200 have active battery cooling which enables multiple Rapid Charges on a trip unlike the Leaf? Thanks, Ian :)
@IanSampsonRLO

Hi Ian, thanks for following along! Yeah 3.5 is doable for sure, maybe 4 if you were crazy :) Yes it has cooling on the batt :)

Thanks Ian :) I’m seriously considering the 40kW e-NV200, if it becomes available on the Motability scheme, I could do with the extra space for my wheelchair. I’ve had the 24kw Leaf for nearly 3 years on the scheme & traveled over 43,000 trouble free miles :) The only problem is that currently the Motability scheme aren’t offering any EV’s at all :( Your original videos on the Leaf were what made me make the switch 3 & a bit years ago, thanks for doing them. Cheers, Ian :)

Ian, I got a bit confused. The trip down was 64 miles to and you stopped twice, but you didn't have to stop at all and you had 16 miles left on the trip back? You said the difference was mainly due to speed and temperature. You didn't mention how long down vs back took.
@IanSampsonRLO
@IanSampsonRLO 6 жыл бұрын
Took longer to get down. Only took around 1.5 hours on the way back.

I am jealous how in Europe guys you had availability of almost all EVs maybe except Opel Ampera-e /Chevy Bolt. Seems GM is not in rush to sell it in Europe where is the highest demand and at the same time here in USA they complain that the sales are low. Another fact about Bolt/ Ampera-e is that in Canada its cheaper than in USA where is assembled!! I like the EV's from Hyundai and Kia but those are available only in few states like California and Oregon with zero emission policies.

Thank you. It will make fast charger use much fairer because charging by time, people will squeeze every last minute out a fixed timed charge, but paying per kW, people will charge more often and only as much as necessary, trading off charge time v charging speed, especially at charges over 80%.
@jur4x
@jur4x 6 жыл бұрын
Well, it is kind of logical really. Petrol stations don't charge you for time you spend at the pump, but for litres of fuel pumped. More fuel pumped - more miles you can go. Same with electricity - the more kWh you "pump" into battery, more miles you travel. Therefore charging per unit is the most logical solution.

upgrade is bound to come in a couple of years - aftermarket style. In terms of 40kwh range - it would be around 120. The New 40kwh leaf can only just get 150 and thats a car!

@IanSampsonRLO
@IanSampsonRLO 6 жыл бұрын
As per video - no other choice. Not sure if you have been to center parcs, but once you are in you are in, you need special permission to remove you vehicle (as 4000 guests on site majority Children). All spaces are filled (you are allocated a specific row so are not allowed to park anywhere else). Hence I left my number, anyone who needed to swap could do so. But there was a spot free anyhow. The others were taken by the new Leaf and the Model S (again, parked there all week). They are not like normal charging spots.
