I really thought this was the end for my Salvage Ferrari 360 Spider, but the car had a different agenda. Plus I bought a $700 Jeep Grand Cherokee wholesale (was a trade-in) at a dealer auction, and it was kinda nice, so we tried to get it to run....

4.7s and 3.7s are some of the most garbage motors ever made. Do something cool and do a 4.0 swap on it, people would love it. Or sell the seats and shoot it out of a cannon. Its garbage otherwise, and whoever you sell it to is going to have to deal with it blowing up in a year or two, and will feel completely ripped off. I used to run a shop where we rebuilt mopar 3.7s and 4.7s, and I found it to be morally irresponsible to continue doing so, so we told everyone who owned them to get toyotas and abandon the platform.

I like the mix as well, you never know some day you might find yourself a cheap Ferrari that has no start. Or maybe you want that challenge.

Easiest way to find bad compression is use a picoscope and connect a lead to the #1 fuel injector and then an amp clamp on the starter positive and turn it over. The amp clam should give consistent peaks and valleys as each cylinder comes to TDC and the #1 lead will show you cylinder 1 when it fires. Count the bad peak # and that’s your cylinder.

Haven't finished video yet, but I have owned a few Jeeps with the Mercedes 4.7L v8. They are decent engines if you take care of them. My 99 GC Limited has the 4.7L with over 2300000 miles on it. Was very well taken care of and runs perfect. But if you neglect the 4.7L at all it will die. Regular oil changes. Don't over heat it too many times. Tune ups regularly. And it will run forever. Used engine around $1500. With good engine and all cleaned up I've seen them sell for around $5k. So you definitely got a good deal. Make for a good flip or daily driver.

Also, while drawn out, I get kind of addicted to the saga and always check for updates on the Ferrari. And when you figure it out and get it running, it's pretty awesome even as just a viewer. I've been there - sorting, diagnosing, repairing, etc - and can appreciate the efforts and reward.

First of all take the valve covers off. And get that valve back into position. It's pretty simple to do use a stick magnet pull the valve up. Run a piece of rope into the cylinder through the spark plug hole. Then take a wrench and turn the engine until the Piston pushes the rope up against the valve. Pressure spring down and replace the broken clip. That open valve is affecting your compression on all your cylinders. You need to watch some more Chris fix videos

The Achilles tendon for most 4.0 and 3.7 Pentastar drivelines are the transmissions. They were made to last 125k miles. When you rebuilt them there's a polymer insert that costs $ 1.75. They were used since there's 12-15 different vehicle model that share the same tranny. I replaced mine on my Liberty with a rebuilt Mitsubishi (dr50)7 years ago. now I have 300k on a 15 year old car. Also add a larger diameter hose on the tranny cooling system.

More of these car gambles please. As for the Jeep, swap the engine or go Rich on us and put a Tesla electric engine in for fun!

Valve seat has come loose and looks like its been embedded in the head wonky, likely cracked the head hence the bubbles in the coolant. Be interesting to see the head pulled off

It’s common in those engines, especially if they have overheated. The seat falls out and hangs the valve open.

Yes finally an update! I assumed you were lost in the chaos of the TB Lightning winning again. Party on and congrats again to you guys down there. Maroon 3x. Crazy, first time since 1960’s someone has done that. I enjoy the summer man!

I had a 5.9 Magnum in a Durango. If I let it sit for a few weeks the ECU used to take ages to let the engine fire. Once it was going and spluttering it used to take 10 minutes driving around the block and it would then tick over and was fine from then on.

Common thing, the 4.7L dropped a valve seat. Happened on my moms 2009 4.7L Jeep GC. Get a Jasper engine. They machine the valve seat deeper and put deeper seats in. The seats are a press fit. Jasper engine comes with a 3 year warranty and they fix all the issues with the 4.7L. Also put in a high volume, high output oil pump. It will last a long time.

One of your best videos serie was the i8. Not because of cost but the problem and journey to fixing it . So cars with unknown issue. Gets my vote

These 4.7L V8 power techs are known to blow head gaskets left and right if they overheat at all. Not to mention the inherent Chrysler transmission problems, the older WJ is alot better than the WK as the WJ you could get the 4.0 Liter Straight Six, bulletproof engine.

I’m kind of anxious to see how this turns out. My daughter found a 2001 Cherokee Laredo 4x4 on Facebook marketplace for $1000 with blown head gasket. She wanted to know if it was worth fixing and how much. I said no. Too many unknowns.

You can find running ones for 1000. Also wouldn't let my daughter drive one of the 90s or early 2000s body styles. The gas tank is behind the rear axle. Been lots of fires from rear impacts.

On the topic of what video we want to see... I start watching you videos and follow you, because of the love in cars. The process of troubleshooting and how you resolve each problem (issue) is something that I enjoy and make me aware for what to watch on my own car. On the types of cars... It is interesting to see some bigger projects like the i8, Ferrari, Lamborghini, but let's be real - none of those projects would be completed if you haven't flipped a few cheaper cars. So... I think a mixture of the two would be great - big projects with fancy and expensive cars alongside with small projects with cheap cars. Personally I would be fascinated, if I see how you modify or restore a USSR classic car.
