Let me tell you, if I live anywhere near that shop, I would bring every car that I have over there for service and maintenance. The shop owner demonstrated a relaxed professionalism that should be an example for every shop. He made the problem his own and applied years of experience in tracking down the issue. I am so happy that they resolve the problem. I came across this video because I am considering adding this very car to my small collection of vehicles. Enthusiasm is one thing, but maybe their enthusiasm stems from milking this KZbinr for all he is worth. Dude spent an entire day in a previous video messing with the "BMW dealer computer" and still failed to identify the blown head gasket. In my opinion, and as the subsequent videos revealed, they should have: 1) Pressure tested the cooling system. 2) Performed the exhaust gas presence test on the cooling system. In doing so, I estimate that they could have identified the blown head gasket in about an hour. Instead, Sam had to do the block test himself. Maybe he is just dragging the entire fiasco out for maximum content creation and drama, but color me unimpressed with EuroCharged's diagnostic skills.

@chrishartley12104 жыл бұрын
Indeed you can. Expensive for a one-off but a lot cheaper than a new engine. But first of all I would get the block checked rather than accepting someone's unseen condemnation. It is also possible to get the warp reduced by bolting the head to a big steel block with shims stressing it in the opposite direction then destressing in an oven for several hours (while still bolted to the steel block). This reduces the amount which needs to be skimmed.
@mrandrat6254 жыл бұрын
The answer from the local huckster.. - Plane the head as little as needed to get it flat. - Double/triple up on the head gasketrs to make up the difference, lots of high temp adhesive sealant. - Button it back up, clear any codes, cross your fingers and hope. - If it runs, pretend stop leak worked and sell it before it blows again.

@ericwelsh48534 жыл бұрын
@@SW-qr8qe Not in this case. The damage is too severe. The machinist said the head is warped so bad that it would need to be milled down too much to make it flat, then the valves would hit the piston heads, and the timing would be off and cause the car's computer to get confused. Plus, since the engine overheated enough to cause the head gasket to fail in all three cylinders, then the block is probably bad too.

BMW sells a thicker head gasket that is supposed to be installed when the head is shaved, to keep the compression ratio the same as originally. The car is taken apart. You might as well give it a shop unless you have a new head. It's a high-performance car that was driven hard. I'd put it back together and sell it. It's worth 10 times what you paid for it in parts.
@Jpilgrim303 жыл бұрын
Most of the time you can find slow head gasket leaks like this by pressuring the system up and letting it sit overnight then pull the spark plugs the next day and put a borescope in the cylinders to look for coolant. you can also put a pressure pulse sensor on the coolant system to see if you have a pressure spike that corresponds to the firing of a cylinder. I find tiny head gaskets leaks regularly like that in cars that overheat but run fine otherwise. It’s small enough that your not losing coolant fast enough to notice or make it smoke but its enough to put combustion gases in the cooling system.
@GoWstingray4 жыл бұрын
This exact thing happened to my Peugeot RCZ after 3 days of ownership, the plastic coolent hoses at the back of the engine leaked and cause a hot spot and a head gasket fail. Probably why the previous owner traded it in, i was lucky as the dealership payed for all the repairs, until it broke down a 4th time which at that point i gave up and contacted the finance company who ended up taking the car back. I guess a bad lemon as they say.

I would skin head until it is flat and put it together with like it should be. Timing is going to be fine they have point but it is not that much to make difference. Anytime you take head off for failure of head gasket you need to resurface it so this is normal procedure. In case of overheating you need to change valve seals so it will not burn oil. You should check oil ring as well for same reason. Put it together and enjoy driving it for. Do not listen those mechanics who doesnt have life experience only those from dealer book. This is why it s salvaged because they do not believe it will be fixed. The only bad thing may be oil usage later of you do not prepare for it.
