I bought this 2000 Cadillac Crystal Coach Hearse at Copart Salvage Auction with Mechanical Damage. The bid was super cheap but in the end it ended up costing over $1000 to get rid of it. I also bought a Twin Turbo V8 BMW 550i with a locked up engine, I tried starting it anyway.

Hi Sam. That might have been my old car. If so it was stolen last year. After recovery the Insurance company had deemed the car beyond repairable and Totaled the vehicle. It always leaked oil (would have to add a quart of oil very often) and had battery issues all the time. Though the car is beautiful and very powerful it was a lemon from the time I got it. Best of luck. Happy to give you more information on the car if you can determine if it came from Nashville.

murry001 depends what you’re looking for in a car. Personally, I don’t care about reliability so high end European cars don’t scare me. I’ve been able to manage the costs of my Range Rover through a great independent mechanic, doing some work myself, and good parts suppliers. The BMW is under CPO warranty and they’ve now covered about $48k of work on it. If I REALLY need to get somewhere, I have a Tacoma.

As the program was, BMW supplies a short engine, it has heads, valve covers, spark plugs vacuum pump, water pump. I put one in and it was $12k with all the other stuff, injectors, turbos, gaskets, seals, one time use bolts and fluids... brand new updated engine with zero miles. It's actually more like a long block, with new turbos and tune it's easy 500 horse and running perfect. The program for replacement BMW was covering 90% of the short engine cost. In other words it's a $30,000 engine that you get if you're lucky it's going to be $9k to $15k with labor and stuff. The one I did took me a a week but held up the hoist for almost a month waiting for parts.

Sam....Glad to know we all go through the same headaches dealing with cars! I'm up to 35 and HAVE to face reality that is too much for one guy. Sadly, they are Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Jaguars and MB. The market for these cars are limited compared to Honda, Toyota, etc. Plus, I absolutely hate dealing with the public...like saying they are coming to look at a car and never show up! I really enjoy your channel because you "tell it like it is" and you do not try to impress like some of your friends! Take care!

Hey Sam, I have a 2012 BMW F07 550i GT. It was serviced it’s whole life with my local BMW here in South Florida. At 114,000 miles, I’ve had an above average high mileage BMW ownership experience. Car is in great shape except for a fuel supply/drivetrain malfunction warning. Codes showed low pressure from high pressure fuel pump and bad O2 sensors pre cats. BMW replaced O2 sensors and gave it a clean bill of health. I have a sagging panoramic sun visor, a result of a shattered spooling mechanism. At 2,600 to repair, that alone nearly totals the car. Haha. I love the car. I will completely fund the engine swap even as it runs perfectly. I want to swap up to the S63 and fully bullet proof this engine. I’m a machinist and would fabricate all fittings as needed. Would you be interested in a collaboration? I would leave the car to your channel and your expertise. Either way, thanks for all the content.

If your interested in a fun twin turbo v8. Look at a Audi s6 I know you have done a Audi rs7. It’s basically the same car with diamond stitched seats and carbon in the inside. Makes 420 hp stock but is fully capable of over 700. Remind you this car is a steal of a price for what u get

The little "washer that falls out" is called a "crush gasket" and is super common on almost all cars, basically because you have different metals in the oil pan and the drain plug... also the crush gasket should be replaced on every oil change to ensure that the pan doesn't leak. 10,000 oil changes later, ya I sort of have a few under my belt.

IT's totally worth it to look for as much as possible original-used parts for the hearse, from one of the car junkyards, and also some would be new parts (aftermarket or OEM), but once sorter out, you end up with kind of modern hearse, if you have a funeral service business. In this case, you invest, in a car where a frame damage is scary, so it you work this, andmanage to have it nicely sorted for 60% of the used retail, you are a champ. You don't worry about demolished value, as you buy to serve, and if it has been working 5 years when you decide to to sel it, you will give the VinWiki story, so byer know he is getting an old, but a daily driven car, which is a goodsign it keeps on working, with regular maintance.

What I gather on the 550i, if the valve guides and seals are the problem, what good is a new short block? How long will that last before it craps out again? If BMW redesigned the guides and seals they should have done a recall to install them before the engine blew.

I hear ya Sam. I've had some big losers too. Bought an old volvo 244. Ran when I got it home, then the ECU committed a watery suicide from a plugged water drain. Sold for a loss. Also bought a 2001 Audi Allroad. Beautiful car, but what a money pit! Sold for about half of what I had in it (never mind the ~25 hrs time I had in various fixes). But the worst was a beautiful 2004 Mini Cooper S. Paid $3k (it was worth $6k at the time) with a clean title, it ran and drove, but had some mechanical and cosmetic flaws, which I thought were about $400 to fix. Buzz...wrong answer! After replacing the harmonic balancer, I discovered the supercharger was bad, the valve gasket was bad, one of the plugs was stripped, mice were living behind the quarters, the control arm bushings were bad, the list was endless. So, I dug in and fixed it all, even had to do the supercharger twice (the first one was defective). While I was fixing the car, the market value of the thing plummeted, until I was way upside down on it. The nail in the coffin was it lost oil pressure at idle and it was none of the usual minor causes. So I threw in the towel and sold it for $2k. I figured out it cost me about $100/mile to drive it (when it ran). I loved that little car, but it hated me. The wife has made me swear never to buy a high-miles European car ever again. I think we're both happier that way...

Great video @samcrac.. behind the scenes is definitely refreshing content.. Between your 335i and an M3 E46 (or 330ci) what do you like more and why.. I've heard 335i's twin turbo are garbage engines and that's why I'd pick the E46 but would def appreciate your opinion man.. Again, thanks for the content definitely entertaining to watch!!

Sam - you should e made a video or 2 of you going through the paces of checking it out . Like you showed us 2 minutes of in this video . That would recoup some cost right there then if you don’t think it’s worthy of a rebuild maybe sell - the 3k short block does sound like a valid option though!! That’s a heck of a nice car if repaired.
