@@tunalad I'm not sure that he did use engineering grade adhesive, perhaps Sam can post up what he used. Whilst it is true that some cars and even aircraft use epoxy adhesives, they tend to be two port mixed at point of use with a twin nozzle system This car certainly won't qualify for the Classiche Certication scheme! Like others have said this not just some ropy Mustang it's a Ferrari supercar, I was expecting a professional repair, last time that I checked pop rivets don't perform well in accidents or crash tests, so the insurnace may be null and void. These comments shouldn't put Sam off as I enjoy his "left field" thinking.

Depends how one defines "done right". A true "do right" would be to dismantle the car and get a new floor pan from Ferrari and install it. 40 years ago I did a similar repair on my 54 Nash and no one ever noticed or questioned it. Welding is the better choice, but riveting is acceptable.

@Kalepsis
@Kalepsis 5 жыл бұрын
Here we go again... The crack moving forward will continue to expand because you didn't stop-drill it or cut it out and weld in new aluminum. The aluminum you put in is too thin. The panel bond is not strong enough to prevent further crack expansion. You used blind rivets, which are not aluminum and will cause galvanic corrosion, meaning that patch panel will crumble and fall off in a year or less. Stop saying it's a "functional repair"... it's about as functional as a piece of cardboard stapled to the floor.

Depends on how much epoxy he shoots in there. If it isolates the area it may not run but like you stated.... to be sure I would drill a hole especially since it is aluminum. Furthermore, I would have taken it to a welder. If you prep it as he did it would cost around the same as what was shown and no worries. I do understand that he was concerned with heat issues... that is why you would put some sort of heat sink between the parts you do not want melted. Something like a piece of metal with some dry ice on the back.

I must admit i assumed that SC was refurbing this car for his own use; but having said that if you were attempting to purposely hide repairs that are not to original spec. you wouldn't post them on youtube. Overall it has to be said that SC is doing a public service by posting money saving tips for those who want an exotic, and wisely spreading the tips amongst cars from several manufacturers....hopefully this makes it easier to sleep at nights..!

There's nothing flash or high tech about a Ferrari frame to begin with. Its made by Italians with welders. It's not pretty, nor does it need to be. Granted, it's not a pretty repair and it would have been a good idea to drill the cracks but it's just a floor. Its not structural and it's under no stress. This repair is as functional as it needs to be. $25 and half an hours work to un-total a Ferrari that was a fraction of the cost of a car with no floor damage is a huge win any day of the week. Plus the repair will be visible what, 0.00001% of the time?

Sam as a mechanic and former welder you should've did the job proper and cut the bad out and sectioned it in with the same type, thickness, etc aluminum with the proper heat treatment and had a body shop of quality caliber professionally weld it in. IF you plan on selling it in the future and a proper inspection is done the value will be diminished. Pssst... I have a few scanners and I'm sure one of them could scan it and if not if it has a OBD 2 style plug I could always go in thru the dealer website and pay for access and use my power maintainer to keep a stable voltage and scan it that way. IF they don't do J-2534 or have a special adapter that interlocks with the J-2534 connector then we can go the web route. Go get that floor pan done properly and bring value back to the car. Will it cost a couple grand? Maybe but then you'll have a validated repair and that equals more money come sale time because we know you'll sell it eventually.

Likely Needs plugs and coils. Plugs need replaced often in Ferrari’s. I think this is likely since in one of the first videos Sam said he couldn’t find maintenance records. However plugs and coils can be had relatively cheap and there are several sources other then the dealer just like the pump which he’s correct has been a known substitute for Ferrari 360 for the better part of ten years. And again I’ll say again that the timing belt likely needs at least inspected.

Sam, the alarm motherboard is fried. In the bonnet there is a metal panel held on with two screws (drivers side) inside and underneath is the alarm motherboard which controls the chirping sound that you should be hearing when you arm/disarm the car with the key fob. For 360 model years 2000-2002 the NiCad batteries were soldered to the motherboard. When the batteries go bad the acid in the batteries when they degrade can fry the motherboard and the siren. You will need possibly a new alarm motherboard with new batteries and possibly a new siren. When you install the new motherboard and siren, the car will chirp twice when you disarm the immobilizer and unlock the doors. The alarm will chirp once when activating the alarm, locking the doors and activating the immobilizer. On FerrariChat, as long as the motherboard is not fried because of old battery leakage, you can take the old NiCad batteries out and retrofit the motherboard with a 9V wiring harness for positive and negative and a regular 9V battery is sufficient enough to operate the alarm motherboard and allow the chirps to happen when arming/disarming the Ferrari. Also, it will allow the siren to work if someone attempts to open/break into your car versus no sound at all and just lights flashing which is happening now. Good luck. It is an easy fix.
