The real class of the man is encapsulated by a story that Stevie Gerrard said..He said that when he (Gerrard) was given the captaincy the armband was taken from Sami Hyypia (who was suffering a loss of form at the time)..Stevie thought that this may lead to some.. Tension..Sami Hyypia sent a text message to Gerrard saying that he wanted to speak to him tomorrow so the next day Gerrard arrives at Melwood and Hyypia comes up to him and says that he is totally behind him as the new captain and if he needs anything to let him know and that the relief of pressure at not being captain would actually help him recapture his form... Now THAT is TRUE class and humility..Typical Sami.. We love you big man..YNWA.. And yes..We did sell him too soon

Sami is loved by every Red who saw him play, he was a superb centre half and a most worthy Liverpool captain. He took us up a level both with Steffan Henchoz and again with Jamie Carragher next to him. I had the pleasure of meeting him in a club the night he captained us to our first win against Man Utd at Old Trafford for many years. The lady who cleaned his house lives in my street and although she is a staunch Everton fan, she can't speak highly enough about what a great man Sami is.
