@@bayesian2007You don’t know much about Joe Satriani. I’ve been following Joe since 1989 and know his catalogue front to back. It’s light years ahead of Van Halen in complexity. EVH has a few difficult riffs and an untouchable groove. Joe is a master musician using complex songwriting structures and techniques throughout his entire career.
@bayesian20076 ай бұрын
@@chrisluckhardt I saw him in at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia for Flying in a Blue Dream tour. Not of this Earth is a fine album. Surfing with the Alien is my favorite of his. I bet I know more about him and music theory than you do. I went to Van Halen in 1984 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. I also saw them with Sammy on the following 3 tours. Joe is a great guy. He’s a decent player. I used to be crazy into him but he just doesn’t do it for me anymore. This tour, in my view, is a mistake but to each his own. Ed and Alex were the Van Halen engine room. @@davidnoy3964 True, but you can still hear that it's over processed and too "chorus-y." With all of the amp modeling available, I would have expected the tones to be near perfect for VH1 songs AND 5150 songs, and everything in between. There's a guy named @TomShreds, his tones are near perfect and his playing is spot on. It would have been pretty easy to get those tones from him. I like Satch, I've seen him a dozen times since the first G3 show. He's great, love his stuff, but I think knowing he was going to be under scrutiny, he missed the mark. And that's unfortunate because he's a great player.
@davidnoy39646 ай бұрын
@YoBroMan I hear what you are saying, dude. But what I like about it is that it sounds like Satch and Ed. It's his spin on the King. I'm not sure why Satch would've used any Fractal equipment etc when Ed kept everything simple and went into Valve amps. If Satch had got up there and used amp modelling then somewhere somebody would've said , that's not how Eddie would have done it. I've listened to other uploads, and the Chorus isn't as noticeable.
@YoBroMan6 ай бұрын
@@davidnoy3964 I agree. plus the whole set is being played a whole step down, so it sounds a little different. I think the mistake was Satch talking about getting the tones and playing the songs. If he had just said, "We're going out and it's us playing a bunch of stuff...", he would not have created this expectation.
