I remember that interview - EVH didn't have the context for Satch Boogie. Joe's high school friend John Riccio said he had versions of Satch Boogie in the 70s, and in his book he said it was inspired by all the swing albums he heard at home. But without knowing any of that even I thought it was an homage to Hot For Teacher or I'm the One.
