Its impresiv how many people speak english in Serbia 👍
@collared

here you're taught english since elementary school, like depending on the school, its either grade 1 or grade 5. elementary school here has 8 grades (our elementary is like primary+middle for you guys) and than we go for another 4 years to the middle school (which is actually highschool equivalent in the west) where you also learn english for 4 more years. only people who don't speak english is those who "dont care" and think serbian is enough. many of us do have quite a thick accents, but we speak pretty fluent english otherwise

@newinhaven Bro, Serbia is excelent in English... when compare it with Greece/Spain/Italy/France/Eastern Europe you See a huge diference... I'm 45, small town In Serbia, and my english is solid..I speak german and russian also.. All the people I know speaks good/,decent english.. With folks over 55 years there will be problems in english communication and with some low income manual workers with elementary school..

@newinhaven That's not true. I'm 52, and I speak English, and almost all of my generations do. We grew up with Hollywood movies and Rock'n'roll music or heavy metal like me and my friends. Ok, in the countryside maybe they didn't learn so much, because they didn't have opportunity to speak or listen English, but in the cities, we generations of the 70s&80s certainly almost all speak English more or less, but enough that we are able for normal communication.

Time flies with your videos, impressive! Tips for reading Serbian: A - aa , flat a (ouch) C - kinda like ts, this one is harder to explain then I thought it would be, you have to hear it to understand it. E - ae (entertainment) I - e (interesting) J - y (yellow) U - oo (Book) O - flat o (ongoing) ž - zh (Zhaque - French name) Š - sh (show) We always read and write the same way and our letters have the same sound always, so by learning to read Serbian letters you can actually read anything written in Serbian. Hope you find this useful and/or fun. Have a nice one!

I am really glad you enjoyed one of the best Serbian dishes, you truly picked some of the best dishes Serbia has to offer! However, I'd highly recommend trying Sarma, it's very similar to a dish you've tried in this video stuffed pepper, but it's even more yummy in my opinion m and it almost always comes with a piece of bacon as well which makes it even more amazing! Really glad you tried Rakija, it's very strong and contains over 50% of the alcohol, you never drink it one take, although we Serbians are used to drinking it in one take especially before breakfast, it is said to enhance blood flow and a good way to start the day off, sort of like a remedy, that's why we enjoy it so much :D

Thanks for the awesome feedback and suggestions! I really enjoyed the rakija and the food was so delicious!
@emilpopovic6167
@emilpopovic6167 Жыл бұрын
Rakija does not contain more than 50% alcohol. If you buy it contains usually up to 43%. People making it at home can make it stronger, but they often do not know, and too high percentage does not make it better. Look at the bottles from award winning producers and you will see. Even in the video it had 40%, not more.
@aleksjazzy
@aleksjazzy Жыл бұрын
The best rakija is between 40-50% alcohol by volume. At that percentage it is smooth and retains its fruit characteristics and woody note, if aged in barrel. Over 50 can be to harsh or medicinal and less enjoyable.

Another fun fact - this dish was actually invented in St Petersburg in the beginning of XX century. It was called "Novomikhaylovskaya cutlet". It wasn't very popular right away. Then in the middle of XX century they started preparing them again, this time by the name of Kyiv cutlet. Though Serbian variant is much more delicious anyways ;)

If you want to visit some smaller city, try Sremska Mitrovica. It beautiful city with charming beach and huge history. Sirmium Roman empire capital is big thing for Europ history.

Karađorđeva has a kind of a funny and a bit vulgar nickname, Devojački San (Maiden's Dream). Especially if it's a bit longer. Some restaurants even call it that in their menu.

just one piece of advice for future visitors: visit some other places in Belgrade, out of center; there is so much to see and taste. And one more thing: Serbs have phonetic alphabet, which means that you read it as it is written, so you do not have to make voice gymnastics to say it right. There is 30 signs for 30 voices in Serbian language. Simple.

The thing inside of Karadjordjeva was actually not a kajmak. It was something similar, called "Kršten kajmak", that's why it exploded on your plate.

We literally have the best food, big hearted people, and nature here. Hope you can go to Zlatibor sometime and try *lepinja sa prelivom i prsutom*. Cevapi, Karadjordjeva, orasnice is our signature tho. Favourite. So glad you tried it!!!! Try butkica too. It melts in your mouth. Come back soon!❤❤🎉🎉🎉

While you're in Serbia, I recommend you visiting the Uzice, Zlatibor district and visit Zlatibor. In Uzice you can try a specialty of Zlatibor district - Komplet lepinja (amazing). You can also visit old fortress of Nikola Altomanovic. As for Zlatibor, the prices are quite high and it is a nice place to stroll. You can visit the Dino park, The monument, Ride the Gold gondola... There is an amusement park, a panorama wheel... A lot of things... Visit as many of these things as you can, trust me, you won't go wrong :D

someone must already said but anyway, Sarajevski cevap (cevap from Sarayevo) is actually Bosnian dish very popular in Serbia. there are few famous cevaps here besides Sarajevski. Leskovachki (from southern Serbia), Pazarski (from southwest) and Banyaluchki from Banja Luka. all good. Serbian food as you mentioned is highly influenced by other cuisines and different geography and it differs from region to region. if you have time travel around a bit and ask for local regional cuisine

Exactly haha, it was a bit funny that she said they’re there at sarajevski then said traditional Serbian food, but they probably didn’t know Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia lol

Kaymak is 'clotted cheese', skimmed from boiled fresh milk, as it cools. BTW 'kaymak' is Turkish for 'top' or 'summit'. Self explanatory.
