Dobpij denb in Russian so why bother. Some words are very different 50 % are same to it's hard even for Russians to reprogram to Serbian. In Belgrade everyone speaks English so no need to learn Serbian to be accepted. We judge on character anyway.

I live in Slovakia. Prices in Lidl here for the same article are 30% to even 50% cheaper than in Serbia. On occasion I buy Serbian products in a small shop here that imports them. For example "Plazma" biscuits that are called "Lane" here are 10% cheaper than in Serbia. And the owner has to pay for transport and import tax to EU. People in Serbia are being robbed by the government and merchant lobby.

My wife was born in Serbia, we met and married in Texas, we travel their frequently to escape our hot humid summers, we haven't spent much time in Belgrade just the outlying villages which I enjoy immensely. We even bought a weekend cottage in the mountains of Grza so we have a place to stay now. And my Serbian is improving every time I go there so I can communicate sometimes and understand a lot more, it's a fun experience learning a new language.

Hey David! According to Serbian tax law you become a tax resident once you buy property there. How does this affect your life in America? @@IwillEndureToTheEnd My wife had to update her citizenship in order to buy the property in her name, but we are looking into adding my name this next visit in a week. We have been married almost 32 years and we mingle with a lot Serbs (more in the beginning) of our marriage since one of our son's participated in a folk lore dance group for about 8 years in which my wife was president for a while. So it's a big (but not major) part of my life now. As far as a "tax resident" yes, we are responsible for property taxes now, electric bills etc. My sister-in-law purchased an apartment 5 years ago so we could (if you are interested) we could help or certainly put in touch with someone who could; we have many friends over there we could put in touch with.

Think about what it means to trade your country, culture, language, mentality, spirit for money. My suggestion would be to use the Internet to improve your financial situation and learn about long term investing. Having a small long term investment account makes wonders over the years.

just for reference, supermarkets in some 3rd world locations like Gabon and Cambodia can be even more expensive than Serbia and their green markets even cheaper! That does not particularly explain Serbia of course, being so close to the middle of Europe, but monopolies do probably explain
@frdz4188
@frdz4188 5 ай бұрын
That is because of transportation costs. It is cheaper for the said supermarket to transport goods to the UK than to Serbia, let alone the country further than that. Serbia is the only country I visited as many as 4 times. That's how much I love this place. I did, however, notice a huge increase in prices since last time I came in 2021. Inflation is a worldwide phenomenon these days, but Serbia was amongst the hardest hit countries unfortunately. It's definitely not cheap anymore. But, I'll keep coming anyway :)

Oh please tell me how you import black tea into Serbia. I'm Australian and my Serbian husband took me to Belgrade for a few weeks once and I was searching and searching for some black tea and didn't quite find anything either. If we move to Belgrade one day, which we will if there is an opportunity, I will definitely feel like the English when they miss their cup of tea, even though the food is SO much better in Serbia than it is in Australia. I think tea is probably the only thing I will miss.

Belgrade USED to be the cheap cool European city. It isn't anymore. It's on par with Paris, except you're not in Paris. I mean for groceries, not the insanely high Parisian rents. And rents, too, have gone up double since before Covid, so it's not cheap to live here anymore either. Restaurants are diverse and good quality, and used to be very affordable, which suddenly changed in the last year or so, especially in the city center. One can still find those good but cheap ones further away from the most popular parts of the city. I guess the still affordable rich cultural and night life is what keeps me coming back here, to Belgrade, and it being safe for women. Great chap, no wonder he made a lot of friends here. Thank you for paying regularly for the bus tickets. I'm a born and raised Belgrader and, strange but true, I pay every single ride. For the same reason as you do. I want it to keep functioning nice and proper for more years to come. I'm glad to have you as a fellow Belgrader. ❤

Hi, I'm from Belgrade. A great video! I have two comments - have visited London three times, spent more than 3 months there overall and I had one same impression Paul had about Belgrade - I thought that London was amazing for partying - e.g. there were great concerts or people playing at bars throughout the whole day and older people dancing and enjoying concerts, which was quite unusual for Belgrade at the time (1999-2005). Also, Paul says that people should come into his vinyl store to buy new stuff - while I'm sure the situation is that majority of the people here cannot afford to buy vinyl, especially great connoisseurs of music, so they choose to buy somethin they really like and want to have in their collection. I'm going to play this video to my students and discuss what they think about it. They are always eager to learn what strangers think about Serbian people.
