I have been wanting to go fishing in the mountains for a long time but the timing was just never right. Fortunately, I found the time to sneak out into a mountain lake for some cutthroat trout fishing. I was planning to cook an entire meal, but I forgot my veggies in the refrigerator at home lol.

ABOUT ME
My name is Samong, and I am an avid outdoorsman who creates hunting and other outdoor videos on KZbin. My videos primarily consist of what Eastern Washington has to offer hunters, fishermen, and other outdoor enthusiasts, but when opportunities arise, I will wonder outside of Washington for more outdoor adventures. Regardless of where I am, I strive to entertain, teach, and inspire my viewers to get outside and enjoy the outdoors.

I'm a little older than you and have been fishing (AND catching fish 😁) for over 50 years. It also does my heart good to see these youngsters fishing and caring about the environment of these fish and for the fish themselves... Even if they keep some to eat. Like I do. There are good people still on the earth.

Awesome fish Samong!! If you ever want some free greens to go with your meal...here are a few that grow everywhere and are in season year round: Stinging nettle, delicious and very tasty steamed or sauteed with meat even stewed (they don't sting after cooking). Plantain: grows everywhere a little bitter raw can be cooked and is decent in stew. Dandelion: good in salad or steamed sauteed in small amounts (can be bitter). All of these compliment meat and eggs very well topped with salt pepper and a splash of balsamic vinegar...best part is they grow everywhere and are generally in season except winter!

Some meth-heads camped out there and tossed garbage all over the lake, I was Soo sad to see it... looks like it got rehabilitated! Those cutthroat are amazing in there, glad to see them make it. If you cut the gills on the underneath side of the fish then cut up from the vent to the base of the gills. Don’t split the gills then stick your finger back through the gills and peel back towards the tail. This will remove the gills, pectoral fins, and all of the insides in one quick motion. I usually cut from the vent to the base of the gills first. Then with the fish belly up I cut the front of the gills loose. Then it’s like you created a pull tab of sorts. Peel back and you’re done! 😊

Next time try parking at the campground gate and walk in. Its only like a 5 to 10 min walk to the lake. It gets you to the other side where it is much deeper water with a faster drop off. Very good fishing that whole other side. I get good catches with a black/orange or black/red roostertails due to the crawfish. I love those alpine lakes up there. Theres a few other lakes close by that are amazing.
