A trick we use here in the east, pop an eye out with your thumb nail and use it for bait on your jig! Can catch a dozen or more on one eye. The scent of it really makes them bite aggressively. Glad to see you getting into ice fishing. It is a great way to extend your outdoor season!

As a child, when I would visit eastern WA before going to school there, my uncles and grandfather would take us out fishing. While we would go to trout lakes, etc, we would also chase yellow perch. Good memories.

I'll give you three tips that have taken me from an ok ice fisherman to a pretty good one, no one is great😂. First and very cheap. Add a spring bobber to your rod. It will help you see those very light bites. Second is some type of bathymetric map of the lake you're fishing. You'll be able to know where the drop-offs and flats are. And last yes a fish finder. A lot of times you could see fish in a different part of the water column. You can get a garmin striker 4 ice fishing bundle pretty cheap. And then you can use it for summer fishing by swapping out the transducer.

Big fan since less than a thousand subs here. Cool video and really nice job on the intro. I think it's often customary to leave a marker at holes so no one walks into it. Hope you don't mind me pointing it out. Keep up the good work

I like the fact that you talk about getting skunked because it's happened to me a few times this winter in the Okanogan area. It's comforting to know that it even happens to the professor of fishing! And the content and quality of your videos is the best I have seen. Those great drone shots of the mountains captures exactly what I love about winter ice fishing. By the way, after watching the video I went out and caught a mess of perch--all quite small--and fried them up in chili and garlic infused oil until they were crisp. The head IS the best part, but I found it challenging to get the spine bones cooked enough for crisp eating.

Samong brother, been binge-watching your content with gusto these past 2-3 weeks, love it , enjoy your cinematography style. First found your channel through an ice fishing video you posted on lake whitefish at the Banks. I icefish that water and that specie whenever Banks Lake ices over. Would love to share tips with you on how to catch that plentyful fish with generous limit of 15 a day. Would be nice one of these days to run into you on the ice. Be safe and Gods blessings brother.

I'll be at Curlew next week, I love the ice. Find the fish before your shelter, too many guys set up their shelter then they wont ever move after which is just setting up for failure when you're not on the fish

Nice work bro! Them perch are so underrated when it comes to eating. Perch and bluegills were little pests when I first started fishing but when I started cleaning and eating my own fish, they were quickly my favorite tasting comparably with striper and the typical flaky white meat fish

Surprised you've never had it like that before. That's how I've always had it growing up. No waste of the fish beside the internal organs. We even deep fry the eggs. If the fish was big enough, we'd cook and eat the livers too. Try going with a softer tip rod and lighter ice lines. Preferably 2lbs because you can really feel and see the sensitivity bite. Good luck!

What you accidentally discovered was the act of Double Frying which is the technique that gives chip truck french fries and Korean fried chicken it's extra crispy texture. Don't throw away the egg next time, you can flour coat them and fry them as well. Most ppl think the eggs/roe is the best part. Give it a try next time!

Awesome video Bruddah. next time you fry “whole” fish. Cut two or three deep slices all the way to the bone from top to bottom. It helps to cook the fish to the bone a lot more easy and the fish does not curl like that one did. And fry the heck out of that thing! To get a really crazy crunch dust the fish with corn starch before frying. Keep up the good work! Hit me up if you ever on Kauai. I’ll bring you fishing. Aloha Bruddah 🤙🏽

I'll have to try cooking them that way, I've always pulled the skin off after cutting down the spine and behind the gill plate (which is easier than it sounds), then you just cut off the fillets from the spine down goes very fast if you've done a few.

A much lighter rod or attaching a spring bobber to the end of your rod will really help you detect those light bites. Those rods you’re using look pretty stiff for perch fishing.

I found the opposite to be true with ice rods the more stiff your rod is the easier it is to fill the bite you won’t see it but you will feel it if you have a noodle rod it’s a site rod you visually see it but you won’t feel the bite I don’t like that visual stuff I like to feel
