I BOUGHT THE CHEAPEST DOWNHILL FORKS ON AMAZON - WILL THEY SNAP?

I bought the cheapest downhill forks on Amazon - Will they snap? I fit these £160 suspension forks to my Ghost enduro bike and send it at my local bike park MTB trails, hitting jumps and berms! But how long will they last?
Amazon is basically a whole new world of weird and wonderful bike parts so I decided to buy some downhill style suspension forks for £160 and fit them to my Ghost enduro mountain bike to see how good or bad they actually are. Now for £160 these things really do look pretty awesome, the weight is super high but the build quality appears quite good. The adjustments on the fork are non existent and it also seems like there is no rebound damper as they forks top out so easily everytime but that didn't stop the fun. So I headed to twisted Oaks bikepark with excitement on the mind ready to shred these cheap forks as hard as possible down MTB trails, berms, dirt jumps and huge gaps, but for how long would they last?
I hope you enjoy the video!

Zoom is a Brazilian brand and as a Brazilian that rocked them from 2012 to 2017 I must say: these are not low quality forks per se, they are made with the mentality of "the best quality that can fit into a brazilian's budget". I never rode these because they were released after I stopped doing DH, but I can tell you that they look way better engineered from the one I used. The one I used was a mechanical "double decker" 150mm that was heavy as fuck but lasted the whole 5 years with me, getting beaten and falling down cliffs with me. If you want a quality budget DH fork, go for them, but if you want a nuanced geometry and configurability, then these are not for you, because we brazilians like to focus on durability at the expense of over-engineering, so it can fit our pockets.

I bought forks, carbon fibre bars, clamp, seat post, knock off hollotech crank, pedals and a new ultra budget derailleur all off AliExpress. Total rebuild cost about €180 and lost 4kilos in weight. I had a fork fail back 20 years ago. It was an aluminum Ballistic brand fork. It was recalled by Raleigh but the shop still had it around and I ended up with a sour deal on it, not knowing it was recalled. I woke up in the ICU of Vanderbilt. I was just popping off a root in ground to dive bomb a bank and the wheel disappeared. I always wear a helmet but that day was out building instead of really riding and didn't have one. In this odd case, the doctors could evaluate that had I had my full face moto helmet on that it would have likely broken my neck or paralyzed me. I ended up with a fractured skull, nose, ribs, ripped parts of my face, and the wild kicker.. I bit off the front 3 inches of my tongue, and the teeth that bit it off were found stuck IN the tongue chunk that was left laying in the trail. A friend went back and found that for me. I was knocked out for about 15 minutes.. my cuz was behind me, saw it all. He propped me up and went for help.. I looked near dead. I came to while he was gone and got up and in shock, started my way out of the woods using the bike like a walker in a wheelie. I met up with the incoming EMT squad about halfway out. They still say that I am the most busted up person they ever saw that was still going. Glad to be a toothless ripper with ya, Sam. Seeing how awesome you rock that gap makes me a little more ok with it all for myself. I do live in Kentucky, so it's not as unfashionable. haha. Best to ya bud. -Pat

He did say it was really heavy. It's not likely to break on you if they didn't engineer it to be light. Those things are likely made in the same factory as all the expensive ones. My guess is a cheapo product like this gets some machining ops skipped to save money (and that's why it's heavier). I doubt they'd make a purchase of different raw material just to make a cheapo product. The exception would be carbon fiber, it's cheaper to use less carbon. That doesn't apply to aluminum - removing material costs more money.

they are terrible. They basically have zero damping., They top out. They leak oil. Basically a glorified pogo stick. They are far more than decent for the price but saying they are as good as the big brands is a farce. Be real here.. I know. I own these forks, a boxxer and a 40.

@@janeblogs324 I've got 2014 RCs here. Come in at 2812g with cut steerer. That's roughy half the weight of the zooms. The zooms are good for the money, but lack any damping adjustment and have no negative spring to reduce topout and initiate sag. The forks job isn't actually to "soak up bumps" per say, but to actually keep the wheel in contact with the ground. I find the Zooms lack grip heavily on chatter... It's very noticeable. They soak up bumps well, but the rebound damping just isn't up to scratch. They will however do well for basic jumping and flow trails though if you don't ride ultra rocky terrain. If you are looking at a cheap long travel fork that has adjustable damping, look at the USD-6 by DNM. They are light (nearly a third of the weight) have adjustable rebound damping and have an inverted design such as the manitou dorados.. They come on 140-160mm travel and cost around 200-300 depending on where you get them.

@@andersnilsson973 Did I say something funny? Think about it. How hard would it be to just make these forks out of a decent alloy. The difficult part is to make parts with high tolerances. In most industries its not the material costs but the cnc milling/casting/finish that make a part expensive.
