If the tutorial is literally a "do specifically what I demand from you or I refuse to work completely" situation, I would say its fine to trigger the flags the game needs to not throw a hissy fit if you proved you could theoretically get around them, just like the rule for parts/treasures being allowed to be collected once you managed to push them into the ships beam
@MarioMastar2 ай бұрын
True, I felt the same way knowing how near iron clad Pikmin 2 is, but I like how Sample really went out of his way to never press that bag if he could avoid it. Reminds me of Ocarina of Time, namely ZFG's randomizer runs where even if an item is literally impossible to get due to logic (needing the mirror shield to shine light on a sun that reveals a chest that contains the mirror shield, which is required for Twinrova, as light arrows don't work on the sun marks IIRC in that game), he still finds a way to get to Ganon somehow. Not enough to just see the glitch on youtube, do it and them play the game like a casual, that shows dedication and mastery of the game's mechanics to prove it can be done non-TAS.
@kayden2119Ай бұрын
I highly disagree. He lost and its about time he just fully admits that when the challenge is a fail. There is nothing wrong with playing for the minimum amount but this video almost feels like an April fools joke with how many weirdly specific rules and loopholes he comes up with to make it seem like it was a success. I say this as a fan of the channel and not a hater I know I sound harsh though.
@ShokyoLeafАй бұрын
@@kayden2119 but thats boring, and you would already know the minimum amount, its the minimum amount to win, thats a very BORING conclusion, this is way more fun to watch then "how minimum can we use a full team of pikmin to beat pikmin 2?" ive already seen enough videos like that for other games, so im glad he isnt following that trend

While it is true that white Pikmin only do half damage in Pikmin 3 and 4, in Pikmin 2 they have the standard damage output just like yellow or blue Pikmin. They changed white Pikmins damage Output in 3 for some reason and People keep complaining about it, so it is an understandable mistake to make since no one really mentions their strength in 2.

Yeah Sample is top tier when it comes to the quality of challenge videos. Going way above and beyond to make sure without a shadow of a doubt that every possibility was tried and tested before breaking a rule and making sure the spirit of the rule is followed as closely as possible. I really loved the visual of him getting the Spherical Atlas to the ship and seeing all the purples jump out the grab it. That looked so natural, I genuinely thought it was how pikmin worked for a hot minute. That's a testament to the quality of his work.

@aurias42Ай бұрын
Maybe hot take idk but I think I would separate "breaking the rules right away" from "doing the game tutorial". Tutorials make challenges far more annoying to complete and in my PERSONAL opinion, a creator should not have to trip over themselves trying to figure out how to circumvent each individual game's tutorial when the whole point of the challenge was the meat of the gameplay It just makes it longer and always adds that "aww it's impossible" moment of the video that I've seen so many of I've gotten tired of them. True, sometimes it's interesting skipping game tutorials, but idk, if I was a creator I'd just brush it off, do the tutorial, remove any excess resources, and then play the game, where it's actually all following the core ruleset. Now... It *does* get a little finicky if there are tutorials in the middle of the game... Again, sometimes getting past stuff like that can be the meat of what's interesting about the video, so I won't complain about apologies there. But if it's just at the beginning of the game, then play your challenge my guy, no need for all the "aww I can't do it" nonsense Sample kept it short here at least, which I appreciated.

Hey Sample, I know you're probably not gonna see this but I felt like I had to share this. I've been watching your videos ever since the Hollow Knight Challenge run and since then you've become my favorite challenge runner on youtube BY FAR. I think a lot of youtubers wouldn't like to hear this but you've helped me fall asleep way too many times to count. I suffer from insomnia and a few months ago I discovered that putting on your videos, seeing these familiar childhood games and hearing your relaxing voice explain the intricacies of a niche game mechanic or a glitch has brought me a lot of comfort and I can honestly, with full confidence, say that you are a BIG part of my nightly routine by now. I don't want to sound parasocial, which I'm not, but I tend to put on your challenge run playlist on youtube when I wanna go to bed and I just let it run until it loops over and over again because I feel a sense of familiarity and safety when listening to your videos. I obviously watch every video when it releases so I don't fall asleep during new content (your content is not boring at all and actually really interesting and engaging) it's just when I rewatch your older videos for the bagillionth time it really helps to put me to sleep (NOT MEANT IN ANY CONDESCENDING WAY) because just like today, I look forward to every new and creative way to break a beloved childhood game of mine and your videos helping my insomnia is really just the icing on the cake. I just wanted to let it all out and if you get the chance to read this comment in the hundreds of comments you receive, I want you to know that your effort and therefore your videos and your personality severely helped improve my quality of life and especially my quality of life. You play a big part in the Happiness I feel these days and I thought if I'm this early to a video I might aswell use the chance to let you know what your videos have done for me. From the heart, thank you so much for everything Sample, I hope you find content creation enjoyable for a long time and continue to help people who might just have the same Issues as me.

it's as if you know my current obsession Sample (and as if you didn't caused it in the first place with your "Pikmin 1 no pikmin challenge" bc I rewatched it again and went "oh wait i have bought p3 a while ago i should play it") great stuff as always, with stellar commentary and editing, love your style! ps: as someone for whom pikmin 3 is the first game played in the series i am quite upset with it being put in the "bad games shredding machine". i challenge you to now do that game with a pikmin limit as well >:3c (not p4 tho. in p4 the problem is solved with Oatchi and it's just not fun)
